The advent of trains brought about the necessity of a time piece. One that you could carry along with you and thus, the pocket watch was born, and watches needed winding. This wonderful watch key fob was created for just such a purpose, but it would make a fabulous and unusual pendant.
The key is simply fantastic, set on both sides with a rich round of bloodstone. The stone is 13 mm across and one side is carved with a man holding a cluster of arrows and standing by a crown while the other side is uncarved. The 15 karat gold mounting is beautifully rendered, simply and heavy and the fold out key still functions just fine. The key hangs from a swivel fob and measures 38.8 mm north to south and 20.3 mm across, it’s 8.4 mm thick, it weighs 12.9 grams. The seal is unmarked and tests as 15 karat gold.
Made in England around 1860, this Victorian fob is beautifully hand crafted.
