Edwardian Faith Hope and Charity Sweetheart Brooch Pin Silver
$ 250.00
Symbolism was powerful to the Victorians. With strict rules of society and culture they had to express themselves in non-verbal ways, like through art, music and literature. When it came to jewelry the faith, hope, and charity brooch was one of the most popular motifs during the later half of the Victorian era. Rich in symbolism, in the cross we have the time honored symbol indicative of faith, the heart, a symbol reaching back thousands of years, is representative of charity, and last but not least, there’s the anchor; long associated with seafarers, it indicates hope and steadfastness.
This silver and gold wash brooch was handcrafted in Birmingham, England in 1907. An early Edwardian example of this traditional Victorian motif, this lovely brooch features the traditional cross, heart, and anchor set against an applied floral backdrop with fine hand engraved accents. This antique pin measures 22.2 x 50 mm and weighs 4.7 grams. It bears the assay mark for Birmingham, the lion mark for sterling, the date letter, “h” for 1907, and the maker’s mark, “SBros”.
