Edwardian Gold Love Knot Ring Hallmarked 1918

$ 710.00

There is a common story told of two young lovers who tie a tree limb into the shape of a knot. They wait a year for the tree to grow. If the knot was to hold, it was believed the relationship would endure. If it did not, then it was not meant to be. Knots were not just for lovers or a symbol of a betrothal or engagement. They were also given as friendship rings, as all cherished relationships should last a lifetime and never be untied.

This antique 9 karat gold ring features the love knot motif on a size 6.25 band. It was handcrafted in England, in 1918 and weighs 6.6 grams. The band width measures 4 mm at the back. This ring has been fully hallmarked as it bears the gold purity marks, “9” and “.375”, the anchor for Birmingham, and the letter date, “t”. The maker’s mark reads, “W.J.S.Ltd”.

This symbol of love eternal would look elegant on the finger of a lady, or lovely dangling off of a matching chain from her neck!
