This lovely little French ring reminds me of a delicate flower, freshly plucked from the Spring garden. Can you tell that I'm ready for spring? Ready to get a little dirt under my nails? Of course, I'll clean them up well with the brush before I put this beauty back on my finger!
Wonderful fresh and sparkling Amethyst and Rose Cut Diamond ring. Hand crafted in 18 karat gold with a rosy hue, the stones are flanked by delicately engraved leaves crafted in gold with a touch of green. Inscribed inside the band with 'Emile á Helene 15-11-21'. It is unmarked but I've had it acid tested to verify content. Made in France around 1920. It weighs 1.8 grams and is a size 6.5, it's clearly been re-sized at least once and could be again.

Up until the 18th century, the Amethyst was considered to be amongst the cardinal gems, along side diamond, sapphire, ruby and emerald. For a time it's wear was reserved only for royalty and the rich purple color has long been associated with nobility. This fantastic pendant boasts a rich purple stone with a deep velvety feel, it makes you understand why Royalty used to claim this most regal of stone all to itself!
Hand crafted in 9 karat gold with a 15 karat bale, this lovely pendant would have taken a skilled jeweler quite a while to make, the gorgeous scalloped frame and beautifully matched and set pearls are simply inspired. The pendant is set with 42 creamy half pearls with a pinkish undertone in the nacre. The amethyst is an oval faceted cut which measures 15.5 mm x 11 mm x 9 mm deep and weighs approximately 8.13 carats. Overall the pendant is 33 mm long including the bale, 21 mm wide at the widest point and 9 mm deep and weighs 4.3 grams. It is not hallmarked but has been carefully acid tested to verify content.
This is a fantastically regal pendant which would look equally wonderful on a chain or simple black cord and could be worn with anything from blue-jeans to ball-gowns!

Your ring goes with springtime, it looks perfect in a wonderland of violets and dark purple tulips with robins in the sky. It goes with the smell of fresh rain and mint as you stroll the sidewalks of a small town, going in and out of antique stores. It goes with humming in the breeze, enjoying the tree buds and looking forward to the evening, when the stars will come out and the grass will dew and your love will be home.
This antique cluster ring was hand crafted in England in 9 karat gold in about 1850. The center stone is a cushiony oval of light purple amethyst in a gold pinched bezel surrounded by a halo of black dot, closed backed, pastes set in silver. I think that the top of this ring started life as a brooch or button and has been transformed at some point into this stunning ring. I purchased it this way and the shank is worn enough to show that this wasn’t done any time recently. The ring measures 19.7 mm north to south and 18.5 mm across, it sits 7.2 mm off the finger and narrows to 1.9 mm at the back of the band. This ring is unmarked but has been carefully acid tested; it is a size 7.5 and weighs 6.4 grams.
Ideal in any season, this ring will glitter in any light! Give yourself something special.

My lord, but those pale violet eyes took his breath away. He tried every holiday, every birthday, every anniversary, to find something that would match the intensity and the beauty in her irises. This New Year’s, he was sure he found a match. Amethysts can’t go wrong because they are oh, so right. Bold and bright, precious and mesmerizing. This year, she wouldn’t just giggle and ‘awww’ at his attempt. This year, her jaw would drop and her eyes would hardly blink because she just couldn’t get enough.
This antique Art Nouveau amethyst and mother of pearl pendant was handcrafted around 1890 in 9 karat yellow gold. The swoon-worthy faceted square violet amethyst measures 6.4 x 6.4 x 3.9 mm. The drop is set with mother of pearl, it’s creamy white and reflects shades of pale pink and light blue. This lovely pendant measures 41.5 x 24.4 mm and weighs 2.9 grams. This piece is hallmarked with, ‘IX’ on the back and has been acid tested.
This Art Nouveau piece is a classic and it’s waiting for your favorite gold chain! (Don’t have one? Just ask, we can help!)

I have a definite weakness for all things Art Nouveau, so the flowing whiplash lines and naturalistic motif of this brooch just spoke to my soul.
Hand crafted by Henry Matthews in Birmingham, England in 1905, this fully hallmarked 9 karat gold brooch is set with 3 rich purple amethyst gems. The top, round faceted, gem measures 5 mm across and 2.9 mm deep, the center stone is an oval faceted gem that measures 9x7x4 mm and the teardrop amethyst at the bottom measures 6.5 mm across and 12 mm long. The overall brooch measures 27 mm across at the widest part of the pendant drop and 40 mm across at the brooch pin, it’s 83 mm from top to bottom. The piece weighs 5.7 grams.
I purchased this one with the idea of turning it into a necklace and would be happy to have it done upon request.

Whenever I go to list an item on my website, I select the basic outline of what it is from a saved drop down menu, Antique>Victorian>Fine>Locket for example. Just now when I went to put up these fantastic earrings, I realized that I didn’t have a saved menu for Art Nouveau earrings. This means that I’ve never listed a pair, that’s how rare and unusual they are!
These beauties were hand crafted around 1900 and are so wonderfully light and full of life and movement. Each one is set with a round faceted amethyst at the top and an oval faceted amethyst in the drop, the amethyst at the tops are .15 carats each and the oval ones are .25 carats each for a total weight in amethyst of .8 carats, the pearl drops measure about 2 mm each. The earrings are 39.5 mm from top to bottom and 10.2 mm across and are marked ‘9ct’ on the reverse for 9 karat gold. Together they weigh 1.7 grams.

Women of 100 years ago fought for their right to vote. They expressed their opinions in a multitude of ways, ranging from protests to the fashions they chose to adorn themselves in. At protests and demonstrations, women in England wore green, white and violet, which blended into a tricolored rainbow of activism, standing in for Give Women the Vote.
They wore pins, medallions, and buttons, with phrases such as, “Votes For Women” or “No Vote, No Tax”. There is no doubt that this type of jewelry existed, but how much and what kind, is up for debate. In the Mappin & Webb catalog for Christmas in 1908, there was a page of Suffragette jewelry that included five pieces, brooches and pendants, that were made with emeralds, amethysts, and pearls – the three suffragette colors. Outside of this evidence, it’s hard to say if a pendant like this one, crafted during the Edwardian era with the same colors, was meant for the same purpose or not. Some like to say that these pieces were in abundance, while some experts say there were only a few. Politics have an inevitable effect on fashion, so the linkage isn’t nonexistent. The trends of the times included similar colors, so which came first?
As far as I can tell, the 'The Women's Social and Political Union' in England was a group of courageous and strong women who stood up as one and demanded to be counted. The colors of the flags they waved and the buttons they wore were purple, to symbolize the instinctual need in all of us for freedom and dignity, white, to symbolize purity, and green, symbolic of hope and the color of spring and new life.
This antique Art Nouveau English drop pendant was handcrafted around 1905. It was made in 9 karat gold during the Arts and Crafts movement in England. It features two green peridot gemstones measuring 1.7 x 1.7 x 1.1 mm each, with a faceted oval amethyst at the center, measuring 9 x 6.5 x 4.7 mm and weighing approximately 1.46 carats. A lustrous natural white pearl drops at the bottom and measures 4.5 x 4.3 x 4.8 mm. Overall, this graceful piece measures 43.6 x 22 x 5.3 mm. It has been hallmarked with the gold purity content mark, “9ct”.
Whether this pendant was inspired by the suffragette movement or not we will never know for sure. What we do know, however, is how elegant, classic, and charming this piece is.

Late Victorian and early Edwardian women’s fashions were all about the waist. Nipped and tucked had way different connotations back then, it wasn’t about doctors and surgery, it was about corsets, corsets, and even tighter corsets. To accent this most desired section of anatomy a woman would wear a sash about the waist and an elaborate and most beautiful buckle at the front, and sometimes at the back as well. I don’t usually buy these as they aren’t used quite as much in fashion these days, but those of you who frequent my site know that I can’t resist a really amazing example of anything. This fantastic buckle, or sash pin, is an exquisite example, indeed.
Housed in its own original fitted box, this buckle is fully handcrafted in 15 karat gold and is marked as such. It is bezel set with 7 sparkling round faceted amethyst gems that measure approximately 10 mm x 7.5 mm and weigh about 3.6 carats each, for a total of about 36 carats of amethyst. Alternating with each amethyst is a smooth and creamy round blister pearl, also about 10 mm in diameter each. The buckle measures 71.5 mm north to south and 48 mm across and weighs 24.8 grams. The box is red leather covered and is in wonderful condition. This buckle has very definite Arts & Crafts styling and was likely made in about 1900, definitely English in origin.

If you read many of my musings, then you probably already know that my favorite things to do on my days off in London are to visit my friends, The Crown Jewels, at the Tower of London and to go to Liberty’s Department Store for a champagne tea. Liberty’s sometimes feels like a museum to me, it’s gorgeous architecture and smooth, beautifully carved dark timbered woodwork are unchanged since the building was built in 1924. If you saw it, you might think it dated back hundreds of years, but it’s actually built in a Tudor revival style; the builders incorporated timbers from two retired British Naval ships in the building of it and it is a truly a delight to the senses. If you get really lucky on your visit to Liberty, you might find that there is a section, usually on the top floor, that will have a display of antique Liberty items and items designed by the original designers from the Arts & Crafts era. They are usually beyond my price range, but I’ve seen fabulous armoires, clocks, art and yes, jewelry, on my many wanderings.
This wonderful Arts and Crafts pendant would fit right in there at Liberty and Company. It was designed by the famed Liberty designer William Hair Haseler and is hallmarked to the reverse with his makers mark and ‘925’ for sterling silver. It was made before the store on Regent Street was built in the 20s, and probably dates to about 1905-1910 (Liberty and Company predates the Regent street store by some 40 years). It is set with four round faceted amethyst gems and one round blister pearl which measures 8.2 mm in diameter. The pendant is 39 mm long from top to bottom and 28 mm across, it weighs 4.8 grams.
To be honest, I’m a bit reluctant to part with this lovely piece, I’m always tempted to keep a good Liberty piece, I like to wear them when I visit, let them visit their roots, as it were!

My friend Judy has the best taste in lavaliere pendants and necklaces. Every time I go to London she has a little bundle of them set aside for me. She knows just what I like, not the plain, boring ones, no, no, I like the fancy ones, with a combination of gems: white, green, purple, blue, any combo will do! Here's one she had set aside for me last time, a lovely shape, with wonderful movement and bright gems, contrasting with creamy pearls.
Handcrafted 9 karat gold Edwardian Lavaliere necklace, de rigueur daywear for the Edwardian lady. Set with three rich, purple Amethysts and three drilled pearls, this necklace is delicate and feminine and oh, so beautiful. The chain is 16.5 inches long, the drop measures 60.5 mm long and 28.4 mm wide. It's unmarked but I've had it acid tested to verify the gold content. It weighs 4.2 grams all together. Made in England around 1900-1910.

A row of two story brick buildings with first floor awnings and rounded door tops lines Vyse Street in the lovely industrial town of Birmingham, England. A wonderful green and gold clock with glassily lanterns marks one of what is known as the ‘Jewellery Quarter’. This pendant was made here, on this street, by the brothers Charles and William Sheldon, sometime between 1913 and 1916.
Beautifully hand crafted in 9 karat gold and set with a sparkling amethyst at its center, this wonderful pendant shows a strong Art Nouveau influence. The pendant measures 40 mm top to bottom and 33 mm across. It is marked on the back with ‘9Ct Gold’ and ’S.Bros’. It would be lovely on a simple gold chain or even a silk cord.

There’s nothing more dreamlike than silver links falling down, resting near the heart, giving every outfit something to be grateful for, and quite possibly, to be jealous of. There’s nothing wrong with lavishing over drops of silver with swirls and a sparkling amethyst. Go ahead and gush, I won’t tell.
This antique Arts & Crafts silver drop necklace was handcrafted in Germany by Theodor Fahrner. A round faceted amethyst sits at the center of a silver hammered disk with swirling wirework details. Chains of silver drop the disk with spiral details and silver spheres at the base. This necklace measures 17 inches in length with a 4-inch drop (105 x 28 mm). This piece weighs 6.5 grams. The clasp is marked, “925” and the pendant is marked, “800”, indicating the silver fineness. This pendant is unsigned.
I have an effusive obsession with this necklace. It’s easy to see why. Try it on and see for yourself.

Let’s talk luxury. You might call it opulent, they might call it grand. Either way you spell it, it’s still the thing of fairy tales. It’s the kind of ring made for glamorous occasions which, as time went on, became a ring for cocktail parties which, as time went on, became a ring you wear on first dates, to meet friends from college, and to don when you just want to feel a little sumptuous. I guess it’s time for a little less talk and a little more wearing.
This antique ring was handcrafted in Europe around 1890. A beautiful rich purple amethyst sits at the center of golden shoulders with a leaf and flower motif on a size 5.75 band. The oval faceted amethyst measures 13.8 x 12.2 x 7.2 mm and weighs approximately 6.42 carats. This ring face measures 17.5 mm north to south, 18.7 mm across, and 9 mm off the finger. The band width narrows to 4.6 mm at the back. It bears the gold purity mark, “750” and bears a maker’s mark. It weighs 7 grams.
Don’t be jaded by the minimalist trends that are currently all the rage. Jazz it up a little, add an amethyst, throw in some gold, and amplify your jewelry routine.

After picking up this beauty on Portobello Road, I ducked into Gail’s bakery for a ham and gruyere croissant, a guilty (and oh, so worth it) pleasure, and a cappuccino. The sun had hardly risen and my hangry level was leaning toward the extreme. I’d barely taken a bite before the barista complimented my necklace, and so did the couple behind me. I’d forgotten I was even wearing it, in my hunger I’d worn it right of the shop. What can I say? When you have good taste, you have good taste.
This antique Art Nouveau gold amethyst pendant was handcrafted in England, right around 1910. It showcases the whiplash lines and curves that are the staple of the Nouveau style. It is done in 9 karat gold with a rosy hue, and supports an oval amethyst and a river pearl drop and it is set with an additional two small, creamy pearls. The amethyst measures 9 x 7 x 4 mm and weighs approximately 1.34 carats. It bears the hallmark, “9ct” and it weighs 2.1 grams. The pendant measures 40 mm north to south including the bale and 24 mm across.
This alluring pendant will not disappoint. It’s striking and unforgettable with it’s Art Nouveau influence and clean curving lines.

It was a hidden treasure, a diamond in the rough, a needle in a haystack, if you will. It was the end of my trip and although I’d had a fabulous time, I was still looking for my own crown jewels. Instinct guided me into a tiny shop with dark fabric draping from the ceiling and tables of tchotchkes and shelves of curios. In London, one can learn a lot from a shopkeeper if you seem uninterested for long enough. There was a door in the back, she pointed it out to me. I feigned boredom as I opened it. And there she was, this beauty, this fortune.
This Art Nouveau silver brooch was handcrafted in England around 1900 by Murrle Bennett and Company. It’s an organic shape of hammered silver with an oval amethyst at the center and a natural pearl drop. It measures 38.5 x 26.2 mm and weighs 6.5 grams. The amethyst measures 13.5 x 11.7 x 6.4 mm and weighs approximately 4.82 carats. It bears the silver fineness mark, “950” and the maker’s mark, “MB CO”.
It was fate that brought me this brooch and it’s fate that you found it, too.

Leonardo Da Vinci attributed amethysts to the power of intelligence. He thought the stone had the ability to dissipate evil thoughts. Until the 18th century, amethysts were considered a cardinal gemstone, they were as valuable as diamonds, sapphires, rubies, and emeralds. For centuries, amethysts adorned the heads and fingers of British and Russian royalty, as well as clergyman.
This elegant antique Edwardian amethyst and gold three-piece set was handcrafted around 1900. This set bears French import marks including the owl hallmark, and was likely made in England. This 18 karat gold set contains a solitaire ring, a set of stud earrings, and a matching gradient necklace.
The ring is a size 4.25 with the amethyst weighing approximately 2.74 carats. The oval amethyst measures 10 x 8.2 x 6.3 mm and the ring face measures 12 x 10 x 6.3 mm off the finger. The band width is 2.1 mm at the back.
The set of earrings boast a total of two oval amethysts, totaling an approximate weight of 1.74 carats. Individually, each earring measures 9 x 7.5 x 4.5 mm.
The gradient necklace measures 14.5 inches in length and contains a safety chain for extra protection. It features 26 oval faceted stones set in 18 karat gold. The largest amethyst measures 9.5 x 12.5 x 7.3 mm and weighs approximately 4.95 carats while the smallest amethyst measures 5.4 x 6.6 x 3 mm and weighs approximately .57 carats.
My strong suspicion is that the earrings and ring were once part of the necklace and were taken off and crafted into additional accessories. If requested, these pieces could become part of the necklace again. This set weighs a total of 33.9 grams. Each piece has been professionally acid tested.
Fun fact: Valentine, the patron saint of romance is said to have worn an amethyst ring that bore a carved motif of Cupid.

Those of you who swing by this shop once in a while might know it already, but I have a seriously strong weakness for all things Art Nouveau. Seeing the Metro gates in Paris last spring sent me into a tizzy of delight. When I was in art school (oh, so long ago), all of my notebooks and sketch books were filled with sketches of whiplashes, flowers and and beautiful profiles. So, you can see how I was perfectly helpless when presented with this fantastic Art Nouveau frame locket.
This antique Art Nouveau gold locket pendant was handcrafted in England around 1900. It features an ornate golden frame with a whiplash motif, set with seven oval amethysts with a long pearl drop. This English beauty is done all in 9 karat gold kissed with a rosy hue. Each amethyst measures 5 x 3.5 mm. Overall, this piece measures 68 x 36 x 5 mm and it weighs 11.6 grams. It has been acid tested to verify the gold content. The glass has a few small nicks from the edge, visible in the photos.
Amethyst is my February birthstone and there was no stopping me from bringing this beauty home and giving it a spot in my own jewel box for awhile.

I have such a weakness for all things Art Nouveau that when I stumbled across this beauty on a lazy Sunday morning at a market in Mayfair, I didn’t even try to resist its charms. I snatched it right up and brought it home, just for you (and well, maybe just a little bit for me).
This fantastic English necklace is set with five oval faceted amethysts which add up to about 4.8 carats in total, the stones are a rich, deep purple in color. Hand crafted in about 1900, it is accented with four creamy white 2 mm diameter pearls. The necklace is a choker style and is quite short at 14.5 inches, I would be happy to have my jeweler add a bit of chain if you’d like it a bit longer. The necklace in made in 9 karat gold and is marked ‘9c’, it weighs 10.2 grams.

This antique, Arts and Crafts, silver and amethyst brooch was handcrafted around 1910. It was designed by the famed Jessie M King, who was a successful artist and designer. King began her career as a book cover designer and illustrator. In around 1904 she began to design fabric for the well-known department store, Liberty & Co.. Shortly thereafter, she started designing jewelry for Liberty. This turquoise colored enameled flower brooch was one of those pieces. It measures 28.7 x 18 mm. It features a faceted round amethyst at the center, measuring 4.8 x 4.8 x 3.4 mm and weighing approximately .37 carats. This stone pairs perfectly with the bright blue enamel that cover the silver flower petals. It weighs 5.0 grams and has been acid tested.
Jessie M King was born in Scotland, in 1875. She studied at the Glasgow School of Art, and, in 1905, became a member of the historic Glasgow Society of Lady Artists. She was influenced by the Glasgow Style movement that began in the late 1880s. Eventually, she ended up influencing the movement itself, and was known as one of the Glasgow Girls. During this period of enlightenment, women artists had a short era of international visibility. They inspired other women in terms of art, women’s suffrage, and women’s equality.
This brooch was designed and crafted during this time period, and would be a stylish addiction to any art history buff’s jewelry box!

This fabulous necklace was made by the firm of Murrle Bennett and Company, an Anglo-German firm started by Ernst Murrle and J.B. Bennett, which produced pieces for retail by the store 'Liberty and Co.', the famous London Arts and Crafts dealers. The company was in existence from 1886-1914, this bracelet was most likely made around 1900. They specialized in high quality affordable silver and gold jewelry. They produced pieces predominately in the Art Nouveau style, and their designs were often characterized by abstract motifs typical of this movement, often comprised of Celtic inspired interlacing elements, stylized foliate forms, pierced geometric shapes, luminous enamels, and precious or semi-precious stones. After World War I, the company was renamed White Redgrove & Whyte. Murrle Bennett & Co jewelry is now highly sought-after and widely collected.
This antique Arts & Crafts amethyst and pearl silver hammered pendant was handcrafted around 1910. It was made by the famed Murrle Bennett and Company in England. A beautiful oval faceted amethyst sits at the center of this organic shaped silver motif with a natural drop pearl. The amethyst measures 11.5 x 8.3 x 6 mm and weighs approximately 3.04 carats. The chain length measures 18 inches and the pendant measures 41 x 24.5 mm. This piece weighs 7.1 grams. It bears two hallmarks, the first is a silver fineness mark that reads, “950”, the second mark is the Murrle Bennett maker’s mark, “MB c”.
This is the kind of jewelry that I love to wear. Murrle Bennett & Co. is one of my favorite designers, their Arts & Crafts style speaks to my artist’s heart. The clean lines, the bright and glowing faceted amethyst contrasting with a creamy pearl, it makes me not want to share it!

The early years of the Edwardian era (and there weren’t very many as the period was very short) were marked by the use of wreaths and garlands in jewels and in art and fashion of the day, hence this period is often called by it’s other name, ‘The Garland Era’.
This fantastic Edwardian pendant indicative of the Garland Era, with it’s leafy center motif of creamy white pearls surrounding a glowing purple amethyst. Until the 18th century, amethysts were considered a cardinal gemstone, they were as valuable as diamonds. During the 18th century, extensive deposits of amethysts were discovered in Brazil causing the gemstone to lose its coveted value. For centuries, however, amethysts have adorned the heads and fingers of British and Russian royalty, as well as clergyman. Today, this gemstone remains rich in color and bold in beauty.
This vintage English amethyst and 9 karat gold ring was handcrafted around 1940. A violet pear-shaped amethyst is set at the center, weighing approximately 16.69 carats. The stone measures 22.4 x 14.6 x 10.7 mm. The shank is hallmarked with the gold purity of “9CT”. This sparkling cocktail ring is a size 6.75 and weighs 8.0 grams.

Jewelry trends of the 1970’s were driven by counterculture. Think Woodstock, rock music, and protests. For the first time, youth culture was driving fashion, not the other way around. Unconventional designs and style were popular as it rebelled against the norm, blending into the progressive mood of the era.
Clothing became more tailored as the decade came to a close, but the colors were bold, the pants were flared, and the prints were loud. Jewelry not only had to match, but also surpass, this trend. Between bright gemstones, thick chains, and long beaded necklaces, jewelry did a very successful job in standing out.
This vintage 9-karat gold ring was handcrafted in London in the 1970’s. It’s a funky piece featuring engraved golden logs around a beautiful amethyst. The amethyst measures 10 x 8.1 x 5.3 mm and weighs approximately 2.28 carats. The ring face measures 23.2 mm north to south, 23.5 mm across, and 9 mm off the finger. The band width narrows to 2.9 mm at the back. This ring has been fully hallmarked as it bears the gold purity marks, “9” and “375”, as well as the mark for London, and the date letter, “q” for 1971. It’s a size 8.5 and weighs 6.3 grams.
The 1970’s was a reigning time for the Youth Culture. Being bold meant blending in. Fun chunky pieces like this ring were just the thing to wear.

I’m a February girl myself, so I’ve always been a fan of the wonderful and yet somehow humble Amethyst. As a kid, I even painted my bedroom the color of this gem, I loved it so much that I wanted to live inside of its gentle glow.
This fantastic ring is hand crafted in 9 karat gold and set with a large oval of sparkling Amethyst. The stone measures 12.4x10.5x6.2 mm and weighs about 4.28 carats. The ring has lovely, leafy shoulders and measures 12.4 mm north to south and 10.7 mm across at the face, it sits 6.5 mm off the finger and narrows to 2.2 mm at the back of the band. This ring is a diminutive size 4.5 and weighs 3 grams. It could be resized somewhat to suit. The band is unmarked but we’ve acid tested it as 9 karat gold. Made in England in about 1950.
