The Ancient Egyptians believed that the Khepri, the god of creation, moved the sun into position each day and each night. He would roll it above the horizon and carry it to the other world at dusk, only to renew it again the following dawn. He was depicted as a man with a head in the shape of the scarab beetle. Amulets shaped as scarab beetles became extraordinarily popular in Egypt around 2000 BC. They were inscribed for personal use or for seals. They were used in jewelry and decorations. They were used for political purposes and royal achievements. They’re popularity hasn’t decreased as this mesmerizing necklace was made in the early 20th century.
