Art Deco Silver Garnet Marcasite Ring 1920s

Garnets have long been one of my favorite stones. I’m amazed by their beauty and diversity, from the gorgeous and distinctive green of a demantoid (or ‘demented’ as the Brit’s say), to the fascinating bright orange of a spessartite; they can be bright as rubies, girly almondine pink or, my favorite, a rich, deep burgundy, the color of the finest Cabernet. My admiration has to do with the way they look in candlelight, impossibly classic and timeless. Their rich colors have long been associated with love and affairs of the heart. They are undeniably romantic, both sensuous and elegant. Add marcasites and you end up with a jewel that is very, very alluring indeed.

This Art Deco silver ring was handcrafted around 1920. It’s a German-made ring that features an emerald-cut garnet at the center of a geometric ring face dotted with eight faceted marcasites. The garnet measures 7.8 x 11 x 3.6 mm weighing approximately 3.01 carats. The ring face measures 17.3 x 15 x 3.7 mm off the finger and the band width is 2.0 mm at the back. This vintage piece is a size 5.25 and it weighs 3.7 grams. It bears the mark, “SILVER” and has been acid tested.

By daylight, moonlight, or candlelight, this sparkling garnet is simply not to be missed. It transitions easily from the boardroom to nightlife.
