Danish Art Deco Amber Silver Sunburst Pendant

Amber, like the stone on this pendant, is known for its glowing resinous luster. It is formed from the hardened resin of ancient trees and can contain early plants or insects. This particular piece of resin is free of any organic life and is a beautiful deep orange color, like a morning sunrise. The Ancient Greek historian, Nicias, believed that amber was made of drops of sweat formed on the earth as the sun set beneath the waves.

This large Art Deco silver pendant was handcrafted around 1920, it’s beautiful sun-ray design is reminiscent of iconic Deco buildings. It’s a Danish sunburst-inspired piece with a glowing amber at it’s center. The amber measures 16 mm in diameter, and the piece weighs 21.9 grams. The overall measurements are 53.6 long x 44.4 wide and 10.3 mm deep. This piece bears the silver purity hallmark, ‘830 S’. When subjected to friction, real amber has a fragrant scent!
