He was walking through the shops, searching for something that looked like her. In a small storefront, at garden level, he spotted a stone like no other he’d seen. A hidden gem, a needle in a haystack, that four-leaf clover in a field of daisies. It looked like a blanket of snow over a mountain, each snowflake with its own colorful fire burning, lighting up beneath the sun. It looked like a sunset in Malibu, over the ocean in the West, with rainbow skies and salty air. It looked like her, beautiful at every angle, timeless and everything he was searching for.

I have this video that I keep on my phone. I’ve been looking at it a lot lately as the temperatures outside have been hanging out on the south side of the zero. I took it last summer, on one of those misty, orange, purple and blue sunsets, in it you can hear a cacophony of bird song and even see a few flitting across the screen. It makes me hopeful. Just like this wonderful pendant, lush and verdant and hopeful.
This fantastic hand crafted perfume bottle was made in a time when things weren’t packaged in single use plastics, a time when you took your tiny pendant to the apothecary and they filled it with your chosen scent (or maybe the only one that they had), then you attached it to your chatelaine and you applied it liberally, because you probably only got one bath a week on a good week!
The inside is fully lined in glass and it has its original glass stopper that’s faceted on top. The inside is washed in gold. This cylindrical pendant measures 59.5 mm from top to bottom and 15.5 mm in diameter, it weighs 18.8 grams. Made in France in the Art Nouveau style in about 1890.
This wonderful tiny silver French bottle is repoussed with a full scene of two beautifully detailed birds on a blackberry bush, they seem interested in a little bee that’s bumbling by, maybe they think it looks like a tasty meal? It’s exquisite. Truly.

Whenever I go to list an item on my website, I select the basic outline of what it is from a saved drop down menu, Antique>Victorian>Fine>Locket for example. Just now when I went to put up these fantastic earrings, I realized that I didn’t have a saved menu for Art Nouveau earrings. This means that I’ve never listed a pair, that’s how rare and unusual they are!
These beauties were hand crafted around 1900 and are so wonderfully light and full of life and movement. Each one is set with a round faceted amethyst at the top and an oval faceted amethyst in the drop, the amethyst at the tops are .15 carats each and the oval ones are .25 carats each for a total weight in amethyst of .8 carats, the pearl drops measure about 2 mm each. The earrings are 39.5 mm from top to bottom and 10.2 mm across and are marked ‘9ct’ on the reverse for 9 karat gold. Together they weigh 1.7 grams.

I have such a weakness for all things Art Nouveau that when I stumbled across this beauty on a lazy Sunday morning at a market in Mayfair, I didn’t even try to resist its charms. I snatched it right up and brought it home, just for you (and well, maybe just a little bit for me).
This fantastic English necklace is set with five oval faceted amethysts which add up to about 4.8 carats in total, the stones are a rich, deep purple in color. Hand crafted in about 1900, it is accented with four creamy white 2 mm diameter pearls. The necklace is a choker style and is quite short at 14.5 inches, I would be happy to have my jeweler add a bit of chain if you’d like it a bit longer. The necklace in made in 9 karat gold and is marked ‘9c’, it weighs 10.2 grams.

I have a taste for pretty things. They don’t have to be diamonds and gold (although I like those just fine!), they don’t have to sparkle at all; they just have to be pretty. Here’s a pretty thing that I found, wandering the markets one day. They call it ‘silverstone’ when silver is used this way, in lieu of a stone, rounded out to a faux-cabochon glow; and I for one, am a fan.
This necklace has Art Nouveau lines, but I think it’s actually a bit later, 20s or 30s, perhaps even as late as the 50s, it’s kind of timeless and fully hand crafted so pinning down a date is tricky. The pendant part at the front measures 55.8 mm north to south and 38.9 mm across at the widest point, it is marked ‘BHo’ and ‘925’ to the reverse. The hand crafted chain terminates in a ring and T bar clasp and measures 19.5 inches around the neck. The necklace weighs 28.7 grams.
Yes, I would wear this any day, because I like pretty things.

It started to rain just ten minutes before the outdoor ceremony was supposed to start. She knew it had been a risk, but she really wanted to get married here, on this beach where they had first met, with her toes in the sand. So they waited, ten minutes, then twenty, then at twenty five the rain stopped, the skies began to clear. They passed out towels to the guests to dry their seats (at least she’d been prepared for this possibility). She linked arms with her Dad and he walked her down the sandy isle. A rainbow split the sky as she walked and she heard the little intake of breath from the gathered crowd. Perfect, she though, she’d known it would be perfect.
Are you looking for the perfect piece for your perfect day? Look no further than this stunning Edwardian pearl necklace with Art Nouveau style. The collective belief that says all new things are better than old is an old wives’ tale that I’m ready to abolish. Take a break from the usual and enter the antique side of things. I’ll warn you, it’s quite irresistible and rather addicting. Progressing backward in fashion goes against the flow, it defies logic - but darling, I think you’re due for a bit of rebellion.
This antique Art Nouveau moonstone necklace was handcrafted around 1900. It showcases that classic whiplash motif and is set with an oval cabochon moonstone at the center. The stone has a great flash of blue and measures 8 x 5.5 x 3.8 mm. The drop measures 46 mm north to south and 28.4 mm across. This piece bears no marks and has been acid tested. This lovely necklace measures 17 inches in length and it weighs 6.8 grams.
Style is as style does and my goodness this necklace most certainly does. I understand how obvious it sounds, but I don’t mind saying it - this piece is exceptional, and it belongs around your fabulous neck.

Sometimes I come across a piece witch is so finely crafted, so interesting and so unique that I can’t help but hurry home to research it as much as I possibly can. Sometimes my searching turns up instant and easy results, other times I just have to go with the clues I can find and wonder if I’ve managed to get anywhere near the truth.
In the case of this locket, I couldn’t figure out who the artist was, it’s French and it’s beautifully designed by someone who was a true master of his craft, that much is obvious. The back of the locket is engraved with a Stag holding a plaque, standing on a log with a four pointed coronet above him. I believe that this particular motif is of the house the English Baron of Berwick. It think that perhaps this wonderful piece belonged to Edith Teresa Hulton, who became Lady Berwick when she married the 8th Baron, Thomas Noel-Hill.. She was a striking and very stylish lady with piercing blue eyes and fine features. She was the daughter of an artist, William Stokes Hulton and Costanza Mazini, and grew up in Venice. Her father was a painter, whose artist friends included Sickert and Sargent, whilst her mother was half-Italian and had strong links to the literary and artistic community of Florence. She was a very interesting woman who served as a nurse during WWI, and met her husband when he was serving in Italy. They were married in 1917 and lived in the English country manor at Attingham Park.
This Art Nouveau locket was crafted in about 1900-1910 of 18 karat gold. It’s in the shape of a orchid flower and shows a lovely girl who seems to be a part of the flower, her hair and the petals flowing together in an animated swirl. The locket is quite substantial, it measures 47.5 mm north to south and 31.4 mm across and weighs 16.4 grams. It is marked on the top with the French eagles head mark which indicates a minimum fineness of 18 karat gold. The locket contains one frame to hold your image and the front is pierce so that whatever you put inside shows through, we’ve shown it with a piece of blue fabric.
Give a piece of history to that inspirational person in your life, or inspire yourself with a gift just for you. Trust me, you don’t need a reason.

I arrived early in the morning at my friends shop in East London. He unlocked the door for me and I handed him a white tea with four sugars, he grinned. We spent the next several hours shooting the breeze and enjoying each others company as we delved into his cases and looked at fantastic jewels. I was just about to walk out the door, coat on, money exchanged, hugs given, when I spotted this ring in the corner of a case by the front door. Well, I just had to turn around and declare that our visit wasn’t yet done. This ring, this ring I simply had to have.
This swirling gold Art Nouveau beauty has a most amazing weight and feel on the hand; it is set with 3 sparkling Old European cut diamonds. The three stones weigh approximately .35 carats each for a total diamond weight of 1.05 carats. The ring itself measures 9 mm north to south and 18 mm across, the diamonds are flush mounted and it sits just 4.3 mm off the hand. Marked ‘14k’ inside the band for 14 karat gold, this ring is a size 7.75 and weighs 6.1 grams. Made in Europe around 1900.
For an engagement or an anniversary, for a birthday or even just because, this ring is practically perfect in every way.

This stunning brooch was made by the firm of Murrle Bennett and Company, an Anglo-German firm started by Ernst Murrle and J.B. Bennett, which produced pieces for retail by the store 'Liberty and Co.', the famous (and my personal favorite) London Arts and Crafts dealers. It’s the type of jewelry I can’t get enough of. There’s something so elegant and timeless about the stylized foliate forms, the usage of semi-precious stones, and the abstract motifs clearly influenced by nature. I can see myself now, with this brooch at the center of a white button-up blouse, faded jeans and pair of booties, just in time for fall.
This lovely Murrle and Bennett Company gold brooch was handcrafted in England around 1910. It’s an Art Nouveau pin with a turquoise at the center with a natural pearl drop set in 15 karat gold. It measures 30 x 26 mm and weighs 4.9 grams. It bears the gold purity mark, “15CT” and the maker’s mark, “MBCO”.
The company was in existence from 1886-1914. After World War I, the company was renamed White Redgrove & White. Murrle Bennett and Company jewelry is now highly sought-after and widely collected.

As far as baubles go, this one is extraordinary. It’s a nod to the vanished elegance of a time gone by, of chateaux and extravagant gardens, when beautiful people dressed for dinner and women entered the room in a flutter of silk. A time when chandeliers were lit, fires crackled, candelabras blazed, turning diamonds like these into rich luminous drops of captured sparkle against soft skin.
This beautiful antique Art Nouveau diamond gold ring was handcrafted in France around 1925. It showcases a whiplash floral motif with rose cut diamonds with two Old European cut diamonds set in silver over 18 karat gold. This ring is a size 7.25 and it weighs 5.8 grams. The ring face measures 28.5 x 12 x 3.4 mm off the finger. It bears no hallmarks and has been acid tested.
Every time I go shopping, there are a few treasured items I find that make me grin like it’s Christmas morning. This was one of those sensational pieces. It’s a stunning ring I’m not likely to see the likes of again any time soon. I had to have it! Now it’s your turn.

I indulged my taste buds in hot chocolate while overlooking the Swiss Alps at a small chalet. The trees and faraway rooftops were blanketed in fresh powder. I was there for the snow, but my fingers were frozen and my toes were sure to follow suit. I was on my second cup of cocoa when he stopped by my small bistro table.
Victoria, your necklace is last season, is it not?
Whatever could you mean?
It reads springtime to me.
Darling, that’s precisely why I wore it.
He paused before heading back to the slopes, grinning. I held my mug up before taking another decadent sip.
This antique Art Nouveau peridot gold pendant was handcrafted in England around 1910 by Murrle Bennett and Co. It’s a nature-inspired necklace with a leaf motif pendant decorated with two oval, faceted, green peridots set in 9 karat gold. This pendant measures 40 x 25 mm and it weighs 5.0 grams. The chain length measures 16.25 inches. The clasp bears the gold purity mark, “9ct” and this piece has been acid tested.

After picking up this beauty on Portobello Road, I ducked into Gail’s bakery for a ham and gruyere croissant, a guilty (and oh, so worth it) pleasure, and a cappuccino. The sun had hardly risen and my hangry level was leaning toward the extreme. I’d barely taken a bite before the barista complimented my necklace, and so did the couple behind me. I’d forgotten I was even wearing it, in my hunger I’d worn it right of the shop. What can I say? When you have good taste, you have good taste.
This antique Art Nouveau gold amethyst pendant was handcrafted in England, right around 1910. It showcases the whiplash lines and curves that are the staple of the Nouveau style. It is done in 9 karat gold with a rosy hue, and supports an oval amethyst and a river pearl drop and it is set with an additional two small, creamy pearls. The amethyst measures 9 x 7 x 4 mm and weighs approximately 1.34 carats. It bears the hallmark, “9ct” and it weighs 2.1 grams. Those of you who swing by this shop once in a while might know it already, but I have a seriously strong weakness for all things Art Nouveau. Seeing the Metro gates in Paris last spring sent me into a tizzy of delight. When I was in art school (oh, so long ago), all of my notebooks and sketch books were filled with sketches of whiplashes, flowers and and beautiful profiles. So, you can see how I was perfectly helpless when presented with this fantastic Art Nouveau frame locket.
This antique Art Nouveau gold locket pendant was handcrafted in England around 1900. It features an ornate golden frame with a whiplash motif, set with seven oval amethysts with a long pearl drop. This English beauty is done all in 9 karat gold kissed with a rosy hue. Each amethyst measures 5 x 3.5 mm. Overall, this piece measures 68 x 36 x 5 mm and it weighs 11.6 grams. It has been acid tested to verify the gold content. The glass has a few small nicks from the edge, visible in the photos.
Amethyst is my February birthstone and there was no stopping me from bringing this beauty home and giving it a spot in my own jewel box for awhile.

It was all in a glance, the way she turned her head when she thought she heard her name across the room. Her blue eyes gazed around, searching. The silver abalone pendant around her neck reflected light from the bright chandelier, just for a moment, as she shifted. The abalone took on a life of its own, shimmering from the inside. She turned back to her conversation, as if nothing had happened.
This antique Art Nouveau silver and abalone pendant was handcrafted around 1910. It features a curving design with colorful abalone at the center with a natural pearl drop. This pendant measures 55.5 x 33.5 mm and it weighs 4.3 grams. It bears the hallmark, “Sterling” and the maker’s mark, “H.A.W.”

A billowy scarf, a dress with an impossible neckline, a jaunty hat, a silk neck tie; these are just a few of the things that would be greatly improved upon by adding a pin as fabulous as this one.

The pin is made in 9 karat gold with a rosy pink color, it is 47.5 mm from top to bottom and 12mm across at the widest point. Made in England around 1900-1910. The stars were bright on Christmas Eve as she walked up the stone steps of the church. The traditional evening service was about to begin. She wore this cross with its diamonds and gold, along with her velvet green dress, as she stood with the rest of choir. They sang in harmony, Silent Night. They sang softly as the children in the congregation slowly walked up the center aisle with candles in their hands, giving light to the darkened room. She watched the crowd settle in, as the candlelight made her gold glow and her diamonds sparkle, waiting for the celebration to begin.
This gorgeous antique Art Nouveau diamond and gold cross was handcrafted in France around 1890. It’s a beautiful scrolling trefoil cross with four old European cut diamonds totaling .10 carats. This piece measures 52 x 30 mm and weighs 5.8 grams. It bears the French eagle head mark for 18 karat gold.

Friction matches were invented in the 1830s. On occasion, these sulfur-tipped matches would combust, due to the heat of friction, without any warning. Vesta cases, or matchboxes, were meant to prevent this explosion from happening by keeping the matches dry and safe. The idea of a vesta case stemmed from the snuffbox, and typically had a rectangular shape, with a flip-top lid, and a serrated edge at the base used to strike the match. Some pieces were built more extravagantly and held cigar cutters or a place for sovereigns.
Victorians made the vessels for these short matches into a fashion statement. These small containers were designed for status and became a normal part of the dress code. Men were the ones who typically carried them around, at the end of a Double Albert chain, or in the pocket of a waistcoat. Cases with semi-clad women weren’t uncommon, but they were hidden inside pockets until offered to another gentleman who needed a light. The designs on vestas varied wildly as advertising on them was quite popular. Logos, crests, sport scenes, and precious jewels donned these cases.
This antique Art Nouveau silver vesta was handcrafted around 1890. It bears a repousse floral motif on both sides. This rectangular vessel opens toward the top and closes tightly. It measures 47.5 x 34 x 10 mm and weighs 16.4 grams. It has been acid tested and bears no marks.
Most people of the Victorian and Edwardian eras carried a vesta made of tin, gunmetal, or brass. The upper class walked around with cases of silver and gold, much like this one. Matches weren’t just used to like a cigarette, they were useful for stoves, lanterns, pipes, fireplaces. They came in different sizes and the smaller matches were carried around while the larger ones were kept at home in a larger vesta case known as ‘tabletop matchsafes’.

Peter Jackson stole it as the motif of the Elven folk, Lothlorián is steeped in it. Who can blame him? The sublimely curved arches and whiplashes of the Art Nouveau period speak to the soul in some sort of ageless way, a light and lofty quality that whispers of tranquility. The airy arch on this French beauty is overgrown by sweet pea flowers so three dimensional, you can almost smell them.

Women of 100 years ago fought for their right to vote. They expressed their opinions in a multitude of ways, ranging from protests to the fashions they chose to adorn themselves in. At protests and demonstrations, women in England wore green, white and violet, which blended into a tricolored rainbow of activism, standing in for Give Women the Vote.
They wore pins, medallions, and buttons, with phrases such as, “Votes For Women” or “No Vote, No Tax”. There is no doubt that this type of jewelry existed, but how much and what kind, is up for debate. In the Mappin & Webb catalog for Christmas in 1908, there was a page of Suffragette jewelry that included five pieces, brooches and pendants, that were made with emeralds, amethysts, and pearls – the three suffragette colors. Outside of this evidence, it’s hard to say if a pendant like this one, crafted during the Edwardian era with the same colors, was meant for the same purpose or not. Some like to say that these pieces were in abundance, while some experts say there were only a few. Politics have an inevitable effect on fashion, so the linkage isn’t nonexistent. The trends of the times included similar colors, so which came first?
As far as I can tell, the 'The Women's Social and Political Union' in England was a group of courageous and strong women who stood up as one and demanded to be counted. The colors of the flags they waved and the buttons they wore were purple, to symbolize the instinctual need in all of us for freedom and dignity, white, to symbolize purity, and green, symbolic of hope and the color of spring and new life.
This antique Art Nouveau English drop pendant was handcrafted around 1905. It was made in 9 karat gold during the Arts and Crafts movement in England. It features two green peridot gemstones measuring 1.7 x 1.7 x 1.1 mm each, with a faceted oval amethyst at the center, measuring 9 x 6.5 x 4.7 mm and weighing approximately 1.46 carats. A lustrous natural white pearl drops at the bottom and measures 4.5 x 4.3 x 4.8 mm. Overall, this graceful piece measures 43.6 x 22 x 5.3 mm. It has been hallmarked with the gold purity content mark, “9ct”.
Whether this pendant was inspired by the suffragette movement or not we will never know for sure. What we do know, however, is how elegant, classic, and charming this piece is.

She wasn’t sure she was going to meet him. They said one year, same time, same place. She wore the necklace he bought her on a whim, she liked the way it looked with her eyes. She was early, starting to doubt she was even the right place. There are a lot of cafes in Barcelona. She went to the bar for an espresso while she waited impatiently, nervously tapping her sandals on the cobblestone. She turned to find a seat and saw him in the doorway, with that leather jacket, that grin, and that thick wavy dark hair.

Nature often inspired Art Nouveau jewelry, and this sparkling dragonfly brooch is no exception! During this era of artistry, dragonfly motifs grew in popularity and ended up on dresses, rings, hair pins, and necklaces. They’re a graceful creature, that has been known to bring peace to those who have recently lost a loved one. This pin would stand out on the lapels of a white jacket, or function fashionably on the ends of a warm scarf.

She lugged her suitcase up six flights of narrow Parisian hotel stairs to find that she had grabbed somebody else’s suitcase. In her evening gown and timeless accessories, she went back down the stairs to find a lady yelling at the manager about a thief. She calmed the woman with her smile and her charm and then drug her own suitcase up the winding stairs, deciding she was done working out for the next two months. She opened her belongings to make sure everything was where it should be. She unzipped a hidden compartment and pulled out her favorite treasure, a pretty ring with shine for days. She slipped it on her finger and back down the staircase she dashed, making her way to a dinner date she was almost too excited for.

She didn’t like to spend the day in one place. She had one of those adventurous spirits. She liked to walk instead of drive. She liked Elvis on vinyl. Her rings were always unique, reflecting her personality.

Some pieces I buy on a pure, girly, bubble gum, princess fantasy level. Because, let’s face it, sometimes a girl just needs something sparkly and fabulous to get her through the day. Dropping off the kids, picking up the kids, doing load after load of laundry, feeding the dog (does anyone else remember to feed the dog?), they are all made a little bit easier when a girl’s got a good manicure and a ring like this on her finger. It’s equally excellent for romantic dates with the hubs, cocktails on Thirsty Thursday with the ladies, and if you’re so inclined, this one would be quite at home at the Academy Ball, dancing through the halls of the Bellevue in a frosty ball gown.
This fabulous ring is set with a beautifully bright and lively green emerald the color of the deep rainforest. This emerald is very clean and clear, as emeralds go, it measures 5x3.6x2.25 mm and weighs approximately .3 carats. The ring is hand crafted in 18 karat yellow gold and the stones are all set in platinum, it has been acid tested to verify the metals. This ring has definite Art Nouveau styling and soft, graceful lines. The ring measures 10.9 mm north to south and 18 mm across, it narrows to 1.5 mm at the back of the band. This ring is a size 4.5 and could be re-sized somewhat, please inquire. This ring weighs 2.6 grams.
Even though it’s unmarked, I feel that this ring may be French in origin, it dates to about 1910.

She wore this pendant everyday that summer at the ranch. She woke up with the yellow sun and went to bed after the moon. It was a summer of cut off jeans and white t-shirts with a little bit of dirt. But between riding horses and eating barbecue and getting to know the most handsome of the farmhands, the dirt wasn’t a concern. Her chestnut horse, Bella, loved going to the lake with her, just the two of them, eating apples and ham sandwiches. She’d lie on a blanket and drink wine out of the bottle and tell Bella all about the shapes she found in the clouds above.
