Antique Art Nouveau Irises Locket Pill Box Pendant
My Grandmother grew Irises like this one on her farm in Virginia. Big, frilly heirloom Irises that scented the air with a thick heady smell in early summer. She had a row of them the length of the back of the house and 4 feet wide, they bloomed for weeks on end. When I was ensconced in my little room under the eaves, listening to the crickets and the peepers, I could smell that rich sweet musk coming in on the evening breeze. Now I have them in my garden, my grandmothers Irises that were her Grandmother's before her and her Grandmother's before that. This pendant is so beautiful I can almost smell them. It's an heirloom, too.
This fabulous Art Nouveau piece is part locket, part pill box, and all kinds of wonderful. Featuring repoussed iris on both front and back, this pieces was hand crafted around 1900 and measures 57.7 mm north to south and 38 mm across, it’s 18 mm deep. It wasn’t meant to hold photos, really, but you can put whatever you like inside, or nothing at all! This unmarked pendant tests as min. 830 silver and weighs 19 grams.
