He was walking through the shops, searching for something that looked like her. In a small storefront, at garden level, he spotted a stone like no other he’d seen. A hidden gem, a needle in a haystack, that four-leaf clover in a field of daisies. It looked like a blanket of snow over a mountain, each snowflake with its own colorful fire burning, lighting up beneath the sun. It looked like a sunset in Malibu, over the ocean in the West, with rainbow skies and salty air. It looked like her, beautiful at every angle, timeless and everything he was searching for.

The morning was a bright one. Spring time in Paris, sunny and brisk. The air smelled sweet from all the trees and flowers in bloom, tinged with the smells of fresh coffee and sweet things baking in the shops along the street. I stopped into a cafe to pick up a cafe creme and a pain au chocolat, it was warm inside and slightly steamy. Then off to do a little shopping. Is there really any better combination than coffee, chocolate, and diamonds? Not that I know of! (Well, okay, diamonds go pretty well with champagne, too, but it was just a wee bit too early in the morning for that!).
This wonderfully sweet sapphire and diamond ring has a very definite Art Nouveau feel to it. Set in the center is a bright blue .6 carat round faceted natural sapphire, providing star support on either side of the sapphire are two lovely and lively old European cut diamonds, each of which weigh about .3 carats. The sides of this ring are accented with another 14 rose cut diamonds, all of the diamonds are set in platinum, the rest of the ring tests as 18 karat gold. This ring bears no marks, but I did purchase it in France and suspect that it is French in origin and lost its mark to resizing somewhere along the way, it dates to about 1900-1910. We've carefully acid tested it to verify the metal content. Overall, the ring measures 16.5 mm north to south, 12 mm across and sits 5 mm off the finger. It is currently a size 7.5 but could be resized a bit in either direction, it weighs 4.1 grams.
This gorgeous and sparkling ring would make an elegant and unusual engagement ring. It would go great with everything; jeans, cocktail dresses, even chocolate croissants!
