Anyone who knows just a little bit about Suffragette jewelry will tell you that there is a lot of debate as to wether or not it even existed outside of a few rare examples. I'm not here to argue the point, if you'd like I'd be happy to send you many links supporting both sides. The truth of it, as far as I can tell, is that 'The Women's Social and Political Union' in England was a group of courageous and strong women who stood up as one and demanded to be counted. The colors of the flags they waved and the buttons they wore were purple to symbolize the instinctual need in all of us for freedom and dignity, white to symbolize purity, and green, symbolic of hope and the color of Spring and new life.
Of course any large social and political movement has an inevitable effect on fashion and so these colors did become quite fashionable at the time and many an Edwardian lady could be found decked out in the somewhat odd combination of green, white and purple. It follows, then, that Edwardian jewelry began to be made in these colors as well. Whether this lovely pendant was made to symbolize the Suffrage Movement or simply made in the colors of the time we will never know, is it the chicken or the egg? Was it subversive? Probably not. More likely it had to do with an outward expression of comradery, of hope and the longing for a brighter future, something many of us can relate to today.
The pendant is lovingly handcrafted in 15 karat gold and set with gem quality dark purple amethysts, bright sparkling, clean white diamonds and flashing demantoid (green) garnets. Made by the famed Murrle Bennet and Company, an Anglo-German firm started by Ernst Murrle and JB Bennett, which produced pieces for retail by the store 'Liberty and Co.', famous London Arts and Crafts dealers. The company was in existence from 1886-1914, this pendant was most likely made around 1908-1910. It is marked on the back with the Murrle Bennett and Co mark and with a 15kt stamp indicating the purity of the gold.
This pendant has a very feminine look and feel and great detailing, including a hinged lower half just to give it that extra bit of movement and insures that it lays completely smoothly on the chest. This is not it's original chain, but I bought it this way, so I'm selling it this way. I think they look really nice together, the chain on it's own is gorgeous, it is French, done in 18 karat gold, it is marked with the French eagles head on the bale. I believe the pearls are natural, the chain is 18" long.
Both pieces are in excellent condition. The Murrle Bennett mark was struck a bit funny and is very difficult to see without a loupe and the piece in your hand, I purchased it from a very reputable dealer in London and have looked at the mark quite closely, I am certain that it is the MB&Co mark with the large C, but I do apologize for not being able to provide a better photo, in person it is much easier to see. Please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions you might have about this rare and important piece of jewelry.

She was at the edge of her porch watching as couples walked by, with their hot lattes in hand, while the crisp autumn leaves flutter down from tree branches. She tugged at her pendant with the pumpkin colored stone that dangled from her neck, and made a mental note to call her mom later, just because. That scent of apple cider and sugar was beginning to blanket the ground, and she pulled her wool sweater a little tighter as the wind brushed past her cheeks.
This vintage Austrian Arts and Crafts silver and carnelian pendant was handcrafted around 1920. This lovely pendant features a floral motif with an oval burnt orange carnelian at the center. This stone has been cabochon cut and measures 20 x 15 x 4.5 mm. This piece weighs 18.4 grams and measures 66.4 x 36 x 11 mm. It bears the silver purity content mark, “800”.
Fall colors can be worn year-round, you know. Take this carnelian pendant for example. It goes with pea coats, light sweaters, and even tank tops and flip flops.

Moonstone in French is ‘Pierre de lune’, and I can’t help thinking of it this way in my mind whenever I find a lovely piece like this one while wondering the markets of England or France. Inside my head I usually say it with a whisper of a sigh… ahhh… pierre de lune.
This silver necklace was hand crafted durning the Arts and Crafts era and has wonderfully bright blue moonstone gems set in sterling silver. The large cabochon oval top stone measures 12.4x9.8x5.3 mm and has 3 smaller, round stones hanging from it, 4.7x4.7x2.7 mm each, the total carat weight in moonstone is about 5.7 carats. The silver necklace is 16 inches long and weighs 3.7 grams. The drop measures 42.3 mm north to south and 12.7 mm across.
Made in England in about 1900, this wonderful silver necklace would look fantastic with everything from loungewear to Louboutins.

It was the fourth of July, it was hot and steamy as we drove home with the moonroof pulled back and the stars shining overhead. Off to the sides we saw fireworks shooting over the horizon, some close and big with a distant ‘bang’, some silent and small and far away. On either side of us mother nature competed for her share of the glory, sending lighting sparkling through towering clouds which lit up gold and rose; and yet still the stars shone over us and a tiny sliver of silver moon bobbed in and out of the clouds. Sometimes a moon is so thin as not to spread any light, allowing for darkness and stars and fireflies and fireworks to light the night; other times the moon is so bright and full that you could drive with your headlights out, watching the grain fields wave in the blue light.
This necklace is more of a full moon kind of girl. Lively and bright, these moonstones have a blue light that seems to emanate from within; set in silver and accented with sparkling golden citrine, likes stars in a darkened sky. This fantastic Arts & Crafts necklace is likely English in origin, and that’s where I found it. Fully hand crafted around 1900, this necklace is eminently wearable, the 17.5 inch long chain puts the moonstone drop at just the right spot, the drop measures 44.5 mm north to south and 24.4 mm across at the widest point. The larger moonstone measures 13.7x12.4x4.8 mm and weighs approximately 5.83 carats, the smaller one is 11x7.3x5 mm and weighs approximately 2.87 carats. There are 10 faceted citrines around the edges which have a lovely rich whiskey color. This necklace weighs 8 grams.
Take a little bit of moonlight with you wherever you go with the stunning bit of history and art!

The Arts and Crafts movement was born out of a rejection of the industrial revolution. Artist felt that the mechanization of creating daily objects detracted from the enjoyment of daily life as a whole. Furniture, household items, even jewelry, once made completely by hand, were now being machined, assembly lined, destroying the unique nature of hand crafted goods. Much of the jewelry done in the Arts and Crafts style was done in silver, using gems that were inexpensive and easily sourced, but some of the firms of this era, working in this style, used gold, and I’m always a little extra thrilled when I come across these beautiful representations of the craft.
This fabulous ring was made by the firm of Murrle, Bennett & Company, an Anglo-German firm started by Ernst Murrle and J.B. Bennett, which produced pieces for retail by the store 'Liberty and Co.', famous London Arts and Crafts dealers. The company was in existence from 1886-1914, this ring was most likely made around 1900. It is completely hand crafted, of course, in 18 karat gold, and is set with a bright blue cabochon of turquoise which measures 7.7 x 6.9 x 3.3 mm. The overall face of this ring measures 14.4 mm north to south and 17 mm across, it sits 5.1 mm off the finger and narrows to 1.6 mm at the back of the band. This size 9 ring is marked inside the band with ‘18ct’ and ‘M.B.C’.

Kate Eadie (1880-1945) was an English jeweler, known for her enamel work and manuscript illuminator skills. Her style was very Arts & Crafts, as you can see with this beautiful amethyst cross. Born in Harborne, she spent most of her life in Birmingham. She trained at the Birmingham School of Art, perfecting her craft and likely learning under the Gaskins. She met her husband in school and modeled for the pre-Raphaelite painter, Sidney Meteyard. She was also an associate of the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists.

Gladys and Charles Mumford were a highly skilled husband and wife duo who created jewelry in the British Arts and Crafts spirit. They started in Coventry, working for Winifred King and Mildred Murphy (who traded as W. King & Co). After visiting Falmouth on holiday and falling in love with it, they decided to move and set up a silversmith and retail shop in Falmouth. Rumor has it, they even sold their jewelry aboard Queen Elizabeth II. Gladys was the more accomplished silversmith of two and by 1963 they had both ceased trading. Their works are rarely, if ever, marked, but are very recognizable.
This vintage Arts and Crafts chalcedony and silver ring was handcrafted in England by Gladys & Charles Mumford. It was made around 1950. An oval cabochon pale green chalcedony sits at the center of a silver leaf motif. The ring face measures 26.5 x 19 x 7.5 mm off the finger while the chalcedony measures 13 x 10 x 4.2 mm. This ring is a size 6 and it weighs 5.4 grams. There are no marks and it has been acid tested.

Eiler and Marloe was a jewelry making firm in Copenhagen, Denmark from 1920 to 1967. Their work was part of the Scandinavian movement known as “Skonvirke”, which, when translated, means, “beautiful work”. It’s a fitting phrase as many of the makers of this movement were trained sculptors, designing and crafting their way to unforgettable and highly coveted works of art. Skonvirke held an aesthetic tenet which was part Arts and Crafts, and part Art Nouveau. It was a reaction to over industrialization, it sought quality craft work, but it also wanted to be available to anyone. Eiler and Marloe specialized in silver and were known for high quality products and design.
This vintage leaf link silver necklace by Eiler & Marloe was handcrafted around 1930 in Denmark. This is a simple collar with a uniform leaf design that encircles the entire neck. It measures 16.5 inches in length and weighs 29.1 grams, each link is 9.5 mm wide. It has been fully hallmarked and bears the silver fineness mark, “830S”, the number, “762”, and the maker’s marks, “EM” and “E&M”.

October winds are pulling leaves of rust and gold from the trees and swirling them around me as I walk my long and winding driveway. The overhanging trees click and whistle with the movement, the air is crisp and smells slightly of wood smoke from my own fire. I wore this ring, perfect for a walk in the woods, or a pumpkin spice latte at the cafe.
Hand crafted in sterling silver, and set with a smooth cabochon of carnelian, this ring has a decidedly Arts & Crafts feel. The stone measures 15x12x5.3 mm and the ring itself is 20.5 mm north to south, 17.5 mm across and sits 9 mm off the finger. This ring is a size 6.75 US and is resizable, it weighs 5.9 grams. It is marked ‘Sil’ inside the band. Most likely made in London, where I purchased it, it could have been made in 1900 or 1960 or somewhere in between, it’s impossible to tell with this classic style.
Flowers and leaves adorn the shoulders of this beautiful ring that glows a rich golden orange. I offer layaway on most items purchased for full retail price. Jugendstil emerged in Germany around 1890. Jugendstil means, “youth style” in German, a term that stemmed from a periodical magazine of the time. This ring was crafted during phase II of Jugendstil, which occurred after 1900. This abstract and organic period took over everything, architecture, painting, furniture, utensils, textiles, etc. It destroyed a hierarchy of arts in which the classical arts had previously ruled. This decorative antique silver ring is one of the masterpieces that emerged from this era.
This antique silver German Arts and Crafts onyx ring was handcrafted around 1900 by Theodor Fahrner. It’s an oval shaped ring with a round en cabochon onyx measuring 9 mm in diameter set in silver with a honeycomb design. It’s a size 6.5 ring that weighs 7.8 grams. The ring face measures 20 x 13.5 x 8 mm off the finger and the band width is 2.4 mm at the back. It bears the hallmark, “FAHRNER” and the silver fineness mark, “935”.
This piece showcases organic lines, symmetry, and workmanship, making it not only the perfect example of Jugendstil, but also a beautiful and timeless ring you can wear again and again and again.

She enjoys very specific things. Leather seats. Film photography. Fleece blankets. She prefers Rome to Venice and farfalle to orecchiette. She likes silver over gold and pink over, well, everything else. She’s not a contrarian, not at all, just precise. She likes moments like these, when her tastes and the mode of fashion collide. Like with this ring.

Still-life paintings are known for their depictions of motionless objects; their color, texture, form, and composition. They’re paintings that express life, emotion, and most of all - skill. It was the Renaissance that saw the still-life painting as an independent genre, although it has existed since before antiquity. The 16th and 17th centuries saw a rise in popularity with still-life paintings as the middle class grew and placed these masterpieces inside their homes.
This antique Scandinavian Arts and Crafts silver enamel ring was handcrafted around 1910. It’s a colorful ring with an enameled still-life motif of a pitcher with an apple and a pear set in 900 silver on a large amorphous ring face. The ring face measures 32 mm north to south and 22 mm across, it sits 3.9 mm off the finger and the band width is 5.6 mm at the back of the ring. It is a size 7.5 and weighs 10.0 grams. It bears the silver fineness mark, “900” and the maker’s mark, “HUISEN”.
Henri Matisse was a French artist at the time this ring was made. He created many things such as prints, sculptures, paintings, and more. His renderings of still-life objects took the still-life genre to new levels as he simplified perspective and used multi-colored backgrounds set behind bold flat objects that had been brightly shaded. His paintings reminded me of the image on this ring, with colors as bright as a rainbow and a new take on perspective.

Precious opals are known for their diffraction of light, called ‘play of color’, in which rainbow colors shine from inside the stone like a kaleidoscope of firelight. This pink precious opal does just that in a mesmerizing fashion.
Opals have been used in jewelry as far back as 4000 BC, in Kenya. They were worn in Ancient Rome and considered to hold all the power of every gemstone because of the opal’s magical play of every color. The Romans called this stone, ‘opalus’, which means ‘stone of several elements’. In 75 AD, the Roman scholar Pliny took note, “Some opali carry such a play within them that they equal the deepest and richest colors of painters. Others simulate the flaming fire of burning sulfur and even the bright blaze of burning oil.”
This pink precious opal ring was handcrafted during the Arts and Crafts movement in the Edwardian Era, around 1910. This piece is European, likely Belgian. The pink opal is oval and an ellipsoid or double cabochon. It measures 11 x 8 x 5.9 mm. It is set in 18 karat gold on a size 8 band. This ring weighs 4.2 grams. It is hallmarked with the gold purity mark, ‘18CT’. The ring face measures 11.5 x 9.3 x 6.2 mm off the finger with a band width of 2.4 mm.
Most of the world’s opals are found in Australia. There is an Aboriginal legend that says opals came from where the Creator touched his feet to the ground as he descended from the heavens on a rainbow.

It’s beachwear, honestly. I wouldn’t say it’s traditional beachwear, that’s what yellow polka dot bikinis are for. But I can tell you it looks fabulous around the neck of a woman reading a romance novel as she lays beneath the sunshine, and lets the ever-flowing ocean tickle the ends of her polished toes. When she does get up, it’s because she’s finished the chapter and her only care in the world is where the nearest tiki hut might be.
This timeless silver gilt and turquoise necklace features 17 inches of beautiful scrolling links patterned with turquoise stones. There are nine turquoise stones in all, polished, boulder style, ranging in size from 6 x 8 x 8 mm to 8 x 10 x 9.4 mm. Each of the large and ornate silver gilt links measures 26.7 x 8.4 x 1.5 mm. This necklace weighs 20.5 grams and has been acid tested.
Now, I’ll let you in on a little secret. It’s not strictly beach wear. It works in cooler climates, as well, and with a little black dress over dinner; but I do highly recommend the beach.

Decorate those parts of you that do the important things, the motioning while you talk, the holding of the coffee, the waving at your cute neighbor. You never know when your fingers are going to need a little pick-me-up after a long day of opening doors, writing notes, counting time, grabbing lunch, placing files, and turning pages. They’re your backbone, so to speak. Give them something grand.
This antique Arts & Crafts silver floral ring was handcrafted around 1910. It features a large oval en cabochon agate stone at the center of detailed scrolling shoulders. The stone is an interesting one, with a slight cats eye effect, it’s a very interesting brown to taupe color depending on how the light hits it (it could be brown chrysoberyl). It was super typical of Arts & Crafts artists to use interesting and beautiful but affordable materials, and this stone is testament to that. The ring face measures 22.4 x 18.2 x 9.3 mm. This ring is a size 7 and it weighs 5.1 grams. It bears no marks and has been acid tested.
Looking for a ring with a bit of flair, one that makes a statement on your ever-working hands? Look no further, it’s right here.

This antique Bernard Instone carnelian ring was handcrafted in England around 1910. A round cabochon carnelian sits at the center of a scrolling floral setting on a ring face that measures 16.2 x 16.8 x 6.5 mm off the finger. This ring is a size 7 and it weighs 2.9 grams. It bears the mark, “STERLING SILVER”.
At just 12 years of age, Instone won a scholarship to the Birmingham School of Jewellery where he studied under Arthur Gaskin, learning silversmithing and jewelry making, excelling at everything he did. After school, he went on to work with Paul Cooper, he studied in Berlin with Emil Lettre, and by 1913 he was teaching at Vittoria Street. In 1920, he set up his own works called Langstone Silver Works. He also created pieces for other jewelers such as Sibyl Dunlop using her hallmark. Instone typically didn’t sign his own work but his pieces are easily recognizable. Liberty & Co was finally able to work with him by the 1940s after putting in 25 years trying to convince him.

I was caught singing ‘Build Me Up Buttercup’ by my upstairs neighbor. Apparently, I forgot to close my apartment door all the way. It would have been slightly less embarrassing if I didn’t just throw on a combination of sweat pants, stilettos, Edwardian jewelry and a winter hat. I was going for the ‘no one is looking’ look. He found me in the middle of the chorus, just as I reached the top of my lungs, and he knocked on the door. I dropped the bowl of pasta I was working on. He laughed for a while, until he offered to bring over a bottle of wine so we could enjoy dinner together. I accepted. And quickly changed my outfit-keeping the necklace and the shoes.
This rare Arts and Crafts sterling silver with beautiful enamel was handcrafted in Birmingham, England. To find a piece of jewelry like this is like finding a hidden treasure. A two sided pendent is very infrequent. The craftsmanship shows a hammered work style on the shining silver that is almost shaped like a trophy. The beautiful gradient rectangular enamel in the center begins at the top with a light green that leads to a bright blue at the base. A creamy white pearl drop at the bottom measures 6.2 x 5.5 x 5.5 mm. It is marked with a Lion Passant, indicating sterling silver, and an Anchor, signifying the origin of Birmingham, England. The letter year code of ‘h’ meaning 1907 is also marked on the piece. The maker’s mark reads, ‘C.V&Co’. This necklace has been acid tested. It is 20.75 inches in length and weighs 6.8 grams.
It’s the perfect gift for that lady in your life, such as your lovely mother, or your beautiful self. Any woman will appreciate the glamorous style this necklace has to offer.

The Arts & Crafts movement was born out of a rejection to the industrial revolution. Artists felt that the mechanization of creating daily objects detracted from the enjoyment of daily life. Furniture, household items, even jewelry, once made completely by hand, were now being machined and assembly lined, destroying the unique nature of handcrafted goods. Much of the jewelry done in the Arts and Crafts style was done in silver, using gems that were inexpensive and easily sourced, much like this silver and quartz ring. The aesthetic wasn’t a specific style but more of an idea. It called for simple form, clean lines, personal fulfillment, and of course, it was hand-made.
This antique Arts & Crafts silver and pink quartz ring was handcrafted around 1900. This fantastic piece features a pink oval cabochon cut quartz at the center of a silver leaf motif that makes up the setting and the shoulders. The ring face measures 25.4 x 21.3 x 10.5 mm off the finger. Overall, This piece weighs 8.3 grams. This statement ring is a size 7.5 and is marked, “SILVER”.
A ring for your troubles, for your cares, for your favorite outfit, and most certainly for your least favorite outfit.

This sublime enamel pendant was made in England during the Arts and Crafts movement right around the turn of the century, c.1900. It's hand hammered, blue-green enamel double drop motif bears all of the typical organic influence of the period, suspended gracefully from a hand wrought double chain hanger. In excellent condition, this wonderful pendant weighs 6.0 grams, measures 2 and 1/4 inches by 1 and 1/8 inches and though unmarked, tests as sterling silver. This sublime pendant would make a perfect gift or a very special treat for anyone who loves Arts and Crafts design and craftsmanship, enamel jewelry or just one of a kind antique works of wearable art!

The Ancient Romans believed that Moonstone was made from the solidified rays of the moon. In actuality it's a variety of Feldspar whose micro-structure causes light diffraction, but I like the Roman's explanation of origin much better!
During the Arts & Crafts movement, artists and jewelers used semi-precious materials and gems to the most wondrous effect. This lovely example is completely handmade in sterling silver and set with two iridescent blue moonstones, the top one measures 10.9 mm across and 7.5 mm north to south and is 3.5 mm deep, the moonstone in the drop is 9.4 mm long, 5.3 mm wide and 3 mm deep. These cabochon cut stones have a fantastic 'moon' in each one that is brought out when they are worn against the skin. Wonderful Arts and Crafts hammered detailing make this necklace a subtle beauty that promises to go with just about any outfit and garner compliment after compliment.
While it isn't marked at all, this necklace was most likely made in England around 1900-1910. I snatched it up early one Saturday morning at Portobello Road market, it was so lovely I didn't even have to think about it, what I like to call a 'no brainer'. The necklace is only 13 inches long, so it’s quite short, I’d be happy to have my jeweler add some extra length to it upon request, it has a 1.5 inch long drop. It weighs 4.9 grams. It is unmarked and tests as silver.

This is the kind of jewelry that I personally love to wear. Murrle, Bennett & Co. is one of my favorite designers, their Arts & Crafts style just speaks to my soul. The clean lines, the smooth and bright cabochon turquoise gem, the weighty feel and fantastic details, all speak to the designer in my soul.
The pendant was lovingly handcrafted in sterling silver and set with a cabochon turquoise which measures 15.3 x 12 x 4.2 mm. The pendant was made by the famed Murrle Bennet and Company, an Anglo-German firm started by Ernst Murrle and JB Bennett, which produced pieces for retail by the store 'Liberty and Co.', famous London Arts and Crafts dealers. The company was in existence from 1886-1914, this pendant was most likely made around 1900-1910. It is marked on the back with the Murrle Bennett and Co mark and with a 950 stamp indicating the purity of the silver. The overall size is 40.9 mm from the top of the bale to the bottom of the pendant and 26.8 mm across, it weighs 6.7 grams.
Pendants like this one get noticed, and garner many a compliment.

If I’m very, very lucky, I get a whole day off in Europe. When it falls in London on a weekday I inevitably find myself at The Tower, ogling the crown jewels. When it falls on the weekend, I avoid the (too crowded for me) Tower and head over to Regent Street to visit the immensely beautiful Tudor shops of Liberty of London. Arthur Lasenby Liberty promoted the work of many Arts & Crafts and Art Nouveau designers and the store still retains some of it’s Arts & Crafts feel. Makes this girl pretty happy to shop and have their Perrier Jouët Afternoon Tea, complete with pastries and clotted cream!
This mother of pearl and 15 karat gold brooch was created by Murrle Bennett and Co. and could have been hanging out at Liberty and Co. when it was new, around 1910. It’s got a lot of style and beautiful whiplash and leave design. The brooch measures 34 mm wide and 16 mm high, it weighs 4.8 grams. Marked with a makers mark and ’15ct’. This gorgeous brooch would make an equally lovely pendant and we’d be happy to add a hanger upon request.

Winter’s gloom was lifting and the green of spring was settling in. The days were growing longer and warmer and the sound of birds filled the morning. She was walking, enjoying the cool breeze of the sunrise. Her scarf blew in the wind so she tightened it and fastened it with a brooch of silver and spring colored stones. Her smile was as wide as the horizon before her. She could smell change in the air.
This truly lovely antique Arts and Crafts silver brooch pin with amber and chalcedony was handcrafted around 1910 in Europe. It’s a floral inspired motif with leaves on a vine. The center of the silver flower boasts the cabochon cut amber while the drop holds the cabochon cut green chalcedony. This pretty piece is quite large and measures 76.7 x 69 mm and weighs 13.5 grams. For centuries, coral was believed to protect the wearer, from evil, from sickness, and from pain. During the Georgian Era, coral was typically faceted and strung onto a necklace. Children of means would often wear a coral necklace, given to them from a loved one, to keep them safe. Of course, coral, especially red coral – the rarest and most expensive – was also fashionable. Jane Harley, the Countess of Oxford, wore a string of red coral around her neck. It was in vogue for the rich and the powerful. And honestly, I’m not convinced it ever went out of style!
This antique Arts and Crafts coral ring is a beautiful dark orange/red shade with three corals set in 800 silver. This ring is most likely German and was handcrafted around 1895 to 1905. It is a size 8.25 US and weighs 3.5 grams. Each of the three corals are oval and cabochon cut. The center coral is 8 x 6.4 x 2.1 mm. The ring face is 9.5 x 19.3 x 4.7 off the finger and the band width is 2.3 mm. It bears the silver purity hallmark, ‘800’.
Ward off evil and look devilishly good doing it with this lovely and versatile coral ring.

Bernard Instone was a designer and silversmith from Birmingham, England who had a large influence in the later British Arts and Crafts movement. He was born in 1891 and passed in 1987. He was highly regarded and his works remain as sought-after collectables today. He was strongly influenced by nature, like in this floral-inspired piece. His designs can be split into two categories – pieces with enamel, and pieces without. This citrine clip belongs to the latter. He often used semi-precious stones, favoring citrines and amethysts. His work included beautiful silver displays of leaves, flowers, intricate mounts, scrolls, and foliage.
This gorgeous Edwardian era citrine and silver clip brooch was handcrafted around 1910. It was made in England by the vastly talented Bernard Instone. It features five oval faceted citrines, the center and largest of which measures 10 x 7 x 4.6 mm and weighs approximately 1.71 carats. Overall, this round clip measures 37 x 35 x 10.5 mm and it weighs 10.0 grams. An engraved insurance mark reads, “K43”. It has been acid tested.
At just 12 years of age, Instone won a scholarship to the Birmingham School of Jewellery where he studied under Arthur Gaskin, learned silversmithing, jewelry, and excelled at everything he did. She found it at the bottom of her jewelry box, happy to hold it again, after assuming she’d lost it for the hundredth time. It was one of those things that was never really lost, simply misplaced for a while. Immediately, she put it around her neck and admired her look in the mirror. Her eyes seemed to glow with the turquoise shades draped along her swan-like neck. No wonder it was her favorite, it made her feel divine.
This antique Arts and Crafts turquoise and gold necklace was handcrafted in England, around 1900. It is a 9 karat gold link chain necklace that measures 19 inches in length. Each of the seven unique tumbled turquoise stones ranges in size from 8 x 7.5 x 10 mm to 13.3 x 12.2 x 5 mm. This piece is marked with the gold purity mark, ‘9CT’. The stones are a pretty teal shade, some more blue than others, with black or metallic veins flowing through them.
There’s nothing more perfect than a simple go-to necklace that will actually go with everything you own. Seriously. Try it. I dare you. Wear this with faded jeans and a sweatshirt, you’ll look fabulous. Wear it with a cocktail dress and stilettos. You’ll look sensational. I won’t admit I’ve worn it with my pajamas but if I did, I’m sure I looked gorgeous!

In 1890, the Birmingham Jewellery and Silversmiths’ Association opened a school specifically for jewelry making on Vittoria Street in Birmingham. More than 125 years later, the Birmingham School of Jewellery is still there, educating students in the worlds of silversmithing, horology, gemology, and more. The school is found at the heart of the city’s Jewellery Quarter, now an urban center with a creative atmosphere. The jewelry trade was once considered the most lucrative career in Birmingham. Apprentices were required to attend the Birmingham School of Art, in which, the branch of Jewellery and Silversmithing was found. The Jewellery Quarter once produced 40% of the UK’s jewelry. It is where many technological advancements in the world of jewelry making were born.
This antique Arts & Crafts silver turquoise drop necklace was handcrafted in England by the Birmingham School around the year 1910. The largest turquoise is a robin egg blue shade with metallic matrices throughout. It’s oval en cabochon cut and oh so lovely. This piece weighs 9.1 grams. It has been acid tested.
This unapologetically chic necklace is hard for me to give up. It goes so well with a white t-shirt and jeans, and that sundress I wear all the time, and that low cut black dress…

The white sun and clear sky gave way to a heat wave with a warm breeze that tickled her cheeks. She laid her bright pink towel on the sand, away from other people, and close to a sugar maple tree. Her eye-catching ring warmed her finger as the metal touched the hot air, the color of the stone matched the color of the sun-lit sea. She smiled as her eyes closed, ready to tan her winter colored legs, ready to soak up all the vitamin D she could muster. The water was only feet away and the sound of the calm waves lulled her into the sweetest of dreams.

There could be many, many uses for this lovely dressing table glass jar. I have a series of them in my bathroom, I use the one like this for q-tips. It might seem a little luxurious to have something so beautiful in the bathroom, but I use it almost everyday, and everyday it gives me a little joy. I don't believe in keeping things this pretty locked away, they need to be used, and this jar could have many, many uses!
Arts and Crafts glass and sterling silver jar, marks show it to be made in London in 1905. It measures 4 1/4 inches high and 2 3/4 inches wide and is 1 3/4 inches deep. The thick heavy crystal is hand-cut and perfectly smooth, it is 12 sided. The large domed lid is hand-hammered and has an as-yet-not monogrammed round cartouche in the center.
This jar would make a lovely and thoughtful gift!

She wore it with her white sundress and gladiator sandals on her way to get a coffee at a local café in the city. The shade of turquoise matched her eyes and caused the barista to stare a little longer than was considered well-mannered. She didn’t mind, he was quite good-looking after all. She walked down the street, with her vanilla iced latte in hand, catching glimpses of the shine that her pendant reflected in the store windows.

The word “chrysoprase” originates from the Greek “chrysos” meaning “gold” and “prasinon” meaning “green”. The Ancient Greeks and Romans would use it to make seals, signets, and other jewelry as the color was, and still is, enthralling. Legend has it that chrysoprase was Alexander the Great’s favorite gemstone. It was known as the stone of Venus, the Roman Goddess of Love. During the Middle Ages, chrysoprase was thought to be a magical stone that was recharged when placed outside beneath a half-moon.
This antique Arts and Crafts silver chrysoprase drop pendant was handcrafted in England around 1910. This elegant and detailed pendant features filigree silverwork that enhances the two oval en cabochon shamrock green chrysoprases. The larger chrysoprase measures 10.5 x 7.5 x 4.8 mm and weighs approximately 2.7 carats while the smaller chrysoprase measures 8 x 5.5 x 4.1 mm and weighs approximately 1.29 carats. Overall, this drop pendant measures 92 x 33 mm. There are no marks and it has been acid tested.
Chrysoprase is made of crystals that are so fine they are unidentifiable by the naked eye, it’s known as cryptocrystalline.

Mary Russell Thew, was born in Glasgow, Scotland in 1876. She studied at the Glasgow School of Art for a time in the 1890s, meeting and befriending Jessie Marion King and E.A. Taylor. She married in 1903, to James Mursell Thew, an engineer whose hobby was silversmithing. He often would make jewelry for his beloved wife and soon enough she began designing pieces herself. He passed away after only a few years of marriage, and Mary decided to take on the jewelry business to support her and her son. She took courses, and became a member of the “Greengate Close Coterie”, a group of artisans who gathered in Kirkcudbright for extended periods of time. She was also a member of the Glasgow Society of Lady Artists. Inspired by her world travels and everything Arts and Crafts, she developed a signature design aesthetic, a free-flowing silver wire style with semi-precious gems, beads, abalone, marble, or in this case, art glass. Her work shows an understanding of space and decoration, it’s a balance between design and color. She passed away in 1953 after a lifetime of achievements and a body of beautiful work.
This antique Arts and Crafts Mary Russell Thew silver necklace was handcrafted around 1915 in Scotland. It boasts a beautiful triangular pink-bubblegum piece of art glass at the center of a silver setting on a 17.25 inch chain. Typically, her work was unsigned, as it is here, but her distinctive style makes it easy to spot! The pendant measures 29 x 28.2 x 8.5 mm. Overall, this necklace weighs 11.2 grams. This piece has been acid tested.
Her work was showcased all over the United Kingdom. Today, her work can be found in the collections of the Victorian and Albert Museum in London.

A single turquoise stone sat in a golden setting on her finger as she grabbed the steering wheel. Her gypsy soul was impulsively venturing toward the sunset, until her tank of gas ran out. On and on she drove, drinking from an old water bottle and snacking on milk duds. She never turned back, always dreaming forward to the mystery of the future. She took few items with her on these road trips, but always that ring, and her sense of curiosity.
This antique Arts& Crafts turquoise solitaire ring was handcrafted in England around 1900. I don’t know why, but I always seem to remember the first piece I buy on every trip. Maybe it’s the anticipation of shopping, the excitement of the journey, the jet lag? Whatever it is, I remember buying this necklace, the first piece on a trip to England, on a cold and rainy early Spring day. After an early morning, a long train ride and then a bus, I was finally at the Newark fairgrounds, north of London. I went first to the one indoor building to see a few dealers I know (and get out of the rain). I was walking by the stall of someone I’ve never bought from before when this necklace simply jumped out at me, I had to stop, had to look, there may have been a bit of love at first sight. In an instant it was already so memorable to me, I simply knew that it would be my first piece.
Completely hand crafted in that very definitive Arts and Crafts style is this fantastic antique silver necklace set with sparkling cognac colored citrines and a large blister pearl. This necklace was made around 1890-1900, at the height of the Arts and Crafts movement, most likely in England. This style of work and combination of materials is very in keeping with what was being retailed by the likes of Liberty and Co. at this time. The colors are superb, the patina on the silver is just right, the rich golden glow of the citrines contrasts just right with the creamy white of the pearl.
This choker necklace is completely unmarked, which is fairly typical of these Arts and Crafts pieces. It is set with 2 oval faceted and 8 round faceted, citrines with lots of sparkle and a single larger oval blister pearl at the center. The lovely and unusual chain culminates in a T bar and hoop style clasp. This necklace measures 15 inches from clasp to clasp and the center drop is 3 inches long and 1.75 inches wide at the widest part. It weighs 17 grams.
As a lover of Arts and Crafts style anything, furniture, architecture, gems, I was totally surprised and delighted to find this necklace in a stall in the middle of a horse field in the North of England. I had to bring it home. For you.
