Arts & Crafts Liberty & Co Turquoise Silver Brooch Pin

It’s true, I do go to the department store Liberty & Company just about every time I’m in London. If you go upstairs to the top floor and work your way down the wooden stairs at the Regent Street end of the building, you will find, somewhere in the store, a display or two of antique items that were retailed here in the 1900s and 1910s, items of the finest craftsmanship and design. I’ve seen some memorable items over the years, sterling items, clocks, furniture, textiles and yes, jewelry, for sure jewelry. I didn’t find this beauty there, but I’m sure she’d fit right in.

This fantastic silver and turquoise brooch was made in about 1900-1910 and is set with an array of bright blue turquoise gems with the largest, center stone measuring 15x13x7.7mm and the smallest being 2.5mm round. The brooch is only marked ‘925’ but is in the Liberty catalog, so I’m calling it ‘attributed’ to Liberty & Co. This large and lovely piece measures 47.5 mm across and 42 mm from top to bottom, it weighs 9.8 grams.

A note from Victoria: I’m never that much into changing these old pieces, so I tend not to up-cycle, convert or modify them in any way, but I do think that this would make a lovely necklace and if you’re interested in having it converted feel free to ask, I’m sure my jeweler can make it a gorgeous one!
