Amidst the bustling streets of London, in the heart of the English Arts and Crafts movement, the department store of Liberty and Co. carried jewelry that echoed the era's reverence for handcrafted artistry and natural beauty. This exquisite piece, a testament to the movement's ethos, bears the signature elements of the time, showcasing the delicate fusion of blue moonstone, warm gold, and intricate enamel work. At its core lies the allure of the bluest moonstones I’ve ever seen, their ethereal, opalescent glow captivating the eye. Each stone, carefully set within the golden embrace, holds a mesmerizing play of adularescence—a celestial dance captured within the confines of the necklace.
Hand crafted around 1910, this necklace is fully fashioned in 15 karat gold, and is a testament to Liberty and Co.'s dedication to quality craftsmanship. The warmth and luster of the gold complements the rich blueness of the moonstones, and it is punctuated with delicate green and blue enamel plaques, meticulously applied to enhance the necklace's elegance.
This gorgeous piece measures 16 inches around the neck, the center drop is 1.5 inches long. There are 28 moonstones in total with the largest one measuring 14x7x3.6 mm and the others ranging from 7-8x5x3-4 mm. The barrel claps is marked with ‘Pat. 75’ and the necklace tests as 15 karat gold. The sketch for this necklace can be found in old Liberty & Co. catalogs and this piece is attributed to them. Weighs 10 grams.
