Antique Edwardian Ruby Pearl Earrings Gold Silver Set
Sometime I shop for things with historical significance, an inscription, a provenance. Sometimes I fall for things based solely on style. That’s what happened with these gorgeous ruby and pearl earrings, I couldn’t resist their brightly faceted stones, their whimsical shape, their alluring charm.
Thirty-eight rich, bright sparkling rubies are set across this pair of 9 karat gold earrings with silver settings. Hand crafted in England in about 1900-1910, these beauties contain about 2.7 carats in total of rubies and each earring is set with two creamy 3 mm white pearls for contrast and a little added pop! Each of the earrings in this hand crafted pair measure 19.3 mm across and high and together they weigh 5.5 grams.
A note from Victoria: Some of you may say, ‘but Victoria, aren’t these pink sapphires?’ to which I say, ‘yes, but…’. The GIA will call these pink sapphires, but the European equivalent will not, and I feel as though this is a new way of classifying these gems. When these were made, they were certain made and sold as ‘Ruby’ earrings. I feel like that’s their period of significance and so that’s what I call them. Sticky wicket, that!
