Austro Hungarian Silver Garnet Pearl Necklace Dragon Motif
Getting married in winter was her idea, she’d always wanted wedding photos in the snow, she wore a white dress and red roses in her hair, the day was perfect, a new layer of fluffy snow covered the ground and flakes floated on the air, sparkling like glitter in the sun. Their breath puffed out in visible steam as they leaned in for a kiss in the icy air, like dragons. The light sparkled off her garnet and pearl necklace, turning the stones the same color as the roses in her hair. Yup. Perfect.
This fantastic Austro-Hungarian necklace was hand crafted in about 1890. It is set with 9 rich, red garnets which are mounted upside down to provide more facets for the light to sparkle off and through. It is further set with 6 partial pearls, their white contrasting perfectly with the red garnets. The silverware is beautifully ornate and features two dragons flanking the top garnet. The necklace is 17 inches long and the pendant hangs 110.1 mm long, is 38 mm wide and it weighs 25.5 grams. Like all good Austro-Hungarian jewelry, the back is beautifully finished with hand engraving. This necklace is marked with the Swan, a French import mark, and has been acid tested as minimum 800 silver.
