This ring was a bit of a mystery, but I think I’ve got it solved! It’s a beauty, set in the center with a 1 carat bright moonstone with great adularescence and a lovely blue hue; around the cabochon center stone are set with 8 pearls in shades of brown and gray, they are 2.7 mm in diameter. The top of this ring is made in 18 karat gold and the split shank is in 14 karat gold. I believe that this ring started life off as something else, most likely a stick pin or part of a brooch, made in about 1880, but it has been more recently made over as a ring. The ring is lovely and well made, it measures 11 mm north to south and 11 mm across, it sits 8 mm off the finger and narrows to 3 mm at the back of the band. This ring is a size 5.5 and weighs 5 grams. It’s marked with the French export mark of the shell and has been carefully acid tested.

I was wandering New Bond Street, with an Everbean coffee in hand, and frosted gluten free coffee cake in the other. I was enjoying the early morning briskness as I waltzed in to one of my favorite hidden gems of an antique store. After trying on too many tweed jackets from the 70’s, and shopping the shoe section for far too long (the brown leather go-go boots were to die for), the owner pulled out a silk drawstring bag. Between your basic gold bands, a silver bauble or two, and a few loose garnets, was this stunner. I slipped it on and wore it for the next week. I had to test it out before selling it to you, I am a professional, after all.
This antique Edwardian ring was handcrafted in England around 1910. It showcases a lively display of three opals patterned with four diamonds set in 18 karat gold. Each of the opals are cabochon cut, with the center stone measuring 5.3 x 4.3 x 1.5 mm. The diamonds are each rose cuts and measure about 1 mm in diameter. The ring face measures 7.6 x 16 x 3.5 mm off the finger and the band with is 1.7 mm at the back. It weighs 2.4 grams and is a size 6.75. It bears the gold purity mark, “18” and the anchor mark indicating it was made in Birmingham, England.
Opal ring goes great with coffee, lunch dates, occasions with frilly dresses, and of course, simple white fitted t-shirts topped off with a smile.

I was reading an article the other day reported on studies done in Finland which show that love and happiness make you physically warm. If that's true, then just think of all the money you'll save on heat with this fabulous Fire Opal on your finger to keep you happy. I freely admit to being just a little bit in love with this fiery beauty. Yup, warm all over!
This Edwardian stunner was hand-crafted in 18 karat gold with diamonds set in sterling silver. The Fire Opal is an oval faceted natural gem which measures 9.7 mm from North to South and 8.2 mm across and is 6 mm deep; its approximate weight is 2 carats. The stone is very clean and clear for a fire opal with some very tiny surface abrasions only visible under magnification. The rich candy-orange kissed with red opal is complemented by its contrasting halo of old European cut diamonds. The 12 diamonds measure on average 3 mm across and 2 mm deep and weigh .15 carats, for about 1.5 carats of total diamond weight. The diamonds are very bright, white and well color matched; they are clean stones with small to medium sized culets. The ring is currently a size 7.25 but could be resized up or down to suit by a skilled jeweler, it weighs 3.5 grams. The ring is unmarked but has been carefully acid tested to verify content. Made in Europe in about 1910.
Why this ring? Because... baby, it's cold outside!

She woke up to a rustic, metallic autumn morning. Coffee. It's always time for more coffee. And a good book. Coffee and Hemingway.
Sigh. It's the simple things.
Walking her chocolate lab, Minnie. Jumping with her galoshes in crunchy piles of orange and brown leaves. Watching the cloud shapes morph as they pass over the lake. More coffee.
And rings like this one. Solid, simple, sparkling in the autumn morning sun. Flashing with each throw of a beloved tennis ball.
This Victorian 18k gold diamond buckle ring was handcrafted in Birmingham, England in 1873. There are two old cut diamonds adorning this ring, totaling .3 carats total weight. Inside the shank there are various hallmarks-a crown (England), the number 18 (gold), and anchor (Birmingham), the letter y (1875), and a maker's mark that reads, 'CyBs’, for the goldsmith firm of Coley Brothers. The band is 6.5 mm wide, and 1.5 mm thick. This piece has been professionally acid tested to ensure 18k gold. This ring is a size 8 and weighs 9.3 grams.
Buckle rings signify commitment and strong relationships. I promise you won't have any trouble committing to this stunning ring.

She was at her table, with her coffee, reading a book. One hand turned the page while the other subconsciously twirled her hair. The ring on the twirling hand refracted rainbow shades all around her, onto the walls and the coffee cups of strangers. Those diamonds, they sang with the light, sending dancing color off into the atmosphere like fairies in a tale.
This glittering, uniquely shaped antique Edwardian diamond ring was handcrafted around 1910, in England. Each of the 11 diamonds are silver set on a 15 karat gold band. The two largest stones measure 3.6 x 2.1 mm and 3.6 x 2.6 mm, respectively. Altogether, this sparkling stunner totals .65 carats! The ring face is 15.5 x 14.7 x 4 mm off the finger. It was a beautiful sort of day, with bright sun and green grass. She stepped out for the day, to meet him in the park for lunch. She wore an olive shift dress with bobbed hair and a decorated headband, fitting for a summertime afternoon. Her lips were done in a cupid’s bow, applied with cherry lipstick. He was already there, dressed handsomely, as always, in his suit jacket and trilby hat. He smiled at her as the sun’s rays stretched across his face, illuminating his blue eyes. He stood beneath a willow tree, and watched as she approached. He had planned on waiting until after their picnic but he decided that right now was the time, so he bent down on one knee. Her hands flew to her cheeks in surprise, as he asked for her hand with this dazzling diamond ring.
This stunning vintage diamond ring features 23 sparkling diamonds totaling 1.4 carats. It was handcrafted in the early 1920s in 18 karat gold with engraved flowers on the shoulders. The diamonds are platinum set and reflect every color of the rainbow, allowing your finger to be the star of every room. The old European marquise cut diamond is 6.8 x 4.2mm and weighs about .28 carats. The marquise is enhanced by old cut round diamonds, which are accented by smaller full and single-cut diamonds. All of the diamonds have nice color and clarity, with a 10x loupe. The face is a pretty oblong shape which measures 26 mm north to south and 15.9 across and sits 5.9 mm off the finger. There are no marks, and it has been acid tested. This ring is a size 6.5 and weighs 7.8 grams.
I cannot get over the sparkle this ring holds. I took it outside just the other day, so I could attempt to capture the glitter with a camera. This ring would make a unique engagement ring and an instant heirloom!

If you read many of my musings, then you probably already know that my favorite things to do on my days off in London are to visit my friends, The Crown Jewels, at the Tower of London and to go to Liberty’s Department Store for a champagne tea. Liberty’s sometimes feels like a museum to me, it’s gorgeous architecture and smooth, beautifully carved dark timbered woodwork are unchanged since the building was built in 1924. If you saw it, you might think it dated back hundreds of years, but it’s actually built in a Tudor revival style; the builders incorporated timbers from two retired British Naval ships in the building of it and it is a truly a delight to the senses. If you get really lucky on your visit to Liberty, you might find that there is a section, usually on the top floor, that will have a display of antique Liberty items and items designed by the original designers from the Arts & Crafts era. They are usually beyond my price range, but I’ve seen fabulous armoires, clocks, art and yes, jewelry, on my many wanderings.
This wonderful Arts and Crafts pendant would fit right in there at Liberty and Company. It was designed by the famed Liberty designer William Hair Haseler and is hallmarked to the reverse with his makers mark and ‘925’ for sterling silver. It was made before the store on Regent Street was built in the 20s, and probably dates to about 1905-1910 (Liberty and Company predates the Regent street store by some 40 years). It is set with four round faceted amethyst gems and one round blister pearl which measures 8.2 mm in diameter. The pendant is 39 mm long from top to bottom and 28 mm across, it weighs 4.8 grams.
To be honest, I’m a bit reluctant to part with this lovely piece, I’m always tempted to keep a good Liberty piece, I like to wear them when I visit, let them visit their roots, as it were!

This late Victorian ruby and diamond gold ring was handcrafted in Chester, England c.1900. Perfectly pink rubies, three in all, decorate the ring face, accented perfectly with two old European cut diamonds, all set in a beautifully hand carved 18k gold band. This lovely ring is fully hallmarked, and while the letter year code is too worn to make out, I would confidently date it to the turn of the century. The hallmarks include the crown hallmark for England, the wheat sheaves hallmark for Chester, England, and the gold purity hallmark "18" for 18 karat gold. There is also a maker’s mark that reads "H G & SLtd". The ring face measures 6.6 x 15 mm, the band is 1.8 mm thick and tapers to 2.2 mm wide at the back. It is a size 7.5 and weighs 3.3 grams.
Sometimes, surprises are necessary just to see her smile like a thousand suns. And sometimes, gold ruby and diamond rings are just what is needed to do the trick.

It’s like an apple, the reddest of the red sort, crisp and sweet with a touch of tart. But this is the sort of red you get to wear on your finger, like a crown. It’s the color of the center of a cherry blossom, the darkest of pink, and stunning in the light. It’s the color of rhubarb pie, dark and delightful. This sort of red is the translucent red of tourmaline, the rock that looks like a good wine. It goes fabulously with a glass of it, too.
This tourmaline and diamond ring has exceptional style and flair. It features a dark pink, almost red, oval faceted natural tourmaline which measures 14x11x7.3 mm and weighs 7 .06 carats. The center stone is held by four large prongs of platinum, each of which is set with a round faceted diamond, .1 carats in total. The ring face measures 20 mm north to south and 17 mm across and it sits 7.4 mm off the finger. This ring is marked inside the band with ‘585’ for 14 karat gold, it weighs 5.9 grams and is a size 7.5US.
I believe that this ring is Continental European in origin, I purchased it in Amsterdam. It was made around 1920.

You know how every once in a while a color that you really love will come into fashion and you just have to buy every sweater and jacket and tee that you can while that color is hot because you know that it might not come around again for a while? Well, this is my color. Not turquoise blue, but Zircon blue. The color of my favorite cashmere sweater, the color of the water off St. Barth's on a clear sunny day.
I love a Blue Zircon, any blue zircon, but I fell especially hard for this stunning example. Rarely do I see a stone with this depth of color, so bright and rich it makes you reach for your sunglasses. The zircon measures 6.5 x 6.5 x 4.2 mm and weighs approximately 1.5 carats. The rich blue center stone is surrounded by 14 transitional cut diamonds which add up to .3 carats. Set in 18 karat yellow gold and platinum, this vintage ring likely dates to about 1930. The ring is a size 8 and could be re-sized, although be certain that no heat is applied directly to the stone or it will loose it's fantastic bright color. The ring measures 11 mm north to south and 11.5 mm across, it sits 5 mm off the finger and weighs 2.2 grams. The ring is marked inside the band with K18 for 18 karat gold and has a makers mark.
If you are looking for that special 'something blue' for your wedding day, look no further, this instant heirloom is sure to have a special place on the fingers of brides in your family for generations to come.

She barely felt it when he slipped it on her finger. She was too mesmerized by his eyes, their bright blue hue sparkled with mischief as his finger drew circles on the inside of her palm. They were at the theatre, but neither of them had their eyes on the stage, they were preoccupied by each other, finally alone in the dark, able to touch for the first time. ‘I love you’, he mouthed it, and held her hand up as his eyes drifted to the ring newly alighted on her finger. She felt it now and looked down in surprise. The heart shone in the lights from the stage, it was the same color as his eyes.

Every few visits to England I hop on a train to Bath and spend a glorious afternoon or two meandering it’s Roman streets and shopping for goodies just like this one. It’s such a fascinating and beautiful city, I like to walk its streets in the evenings, up hills and around bends, down little alleyways, finding here and there a bit of the ancient feel of centuries past. (And I’m sure to end the day at the Old Green Tree for a pint of something local!)
This wonderful and solid ring came from Bath, but it was actually made in Birmingham, during the Victorian era. The ring is set with two sparkling, round faceted, rubies and at its center a creamy half pearl. This ring bears full English hallmarks which indicate that this it was made in Birmingham in the year 1882 of 18 karat gold by the maker ‘W.S’. It’s a band motif with a twisted gold ‘rope’ at both edges and a plaque on the front where the gems are found. This ring measures 6.3 mm north to south at the front and 6.1 mm north to south at the back. This ring is a size 6 and weighs 3.5 grams.

Caution: Old Cut diamonds are addictive. Each one is a little bit different from the other, each stone was mapped out in the mind of a master in stone cutting, each one was cut and polished carefully by hand. These stones each have their own character and it gives a ring like this one the overall appearance of a work of art, with the slow, lazy strong flashes of color and light that only old cuts can offer. Even those who don’t know the difference will be able to see right away that these are no ordinary stones, this no ordinary ring.
This vintage ring was hand crafted in 18 karat white gold around 1920. It is set with 18 old European cut diamonds and two brilliant cut diamonds which were added later when the ring was re-sized. Each diamond weighs approximately .2 carats and the total carat weight of this ring is about 3.5 carats. The ring measures 3.9 mm north to south and sits 3 mm off the finger. This ring is a size 9.25 but as it’s been resized up it could probably be resized down. This ring is marked with an owl, the French import mark for a gold fineness of 18 karat minimum, it weighs 4.6 grams.
This gorgeous ring would make an excellent wedding band, or addition to a ring stack. It’s got big, juicy diamonds and a lot of presence.

For stacking, layering, going solo, or even dangling from a matching chain, eternity bands are one of the most surprisingly versatile pieces of jewelry around. For an engagement ring she’ll brag about forever, or an anniversary gift she’ll be speechless over, it’s something she can wear in an endless variety of beautiful ways.
This vintage diamond ring was handcrafted around 1960. It features 33 princess-cut diamonds set in platinum on a size 7 band. Each of the diamonds measures approximately 2 x 2 x 1.6 mm and together, they weigh an about 1.75 carats total. This ring weighs 4.4 grams, the height measures 3.1 mm and the depth is 2.2 mm off the finger. It bears the hallmark, “PLAT”, “152”, and “PT 950”, as well as a maker’s mark. This glittering band is likely European.
One of my favorite parts of this job, besides wearing fabulous things, is the research behind it. The idea of the eternity ring dates back to ancient Egypt. The clever and mysterious Egyptians wore rings to represent eternity in life and in love. Archeologists have uncovered rings crafted of bone, reeds, and precious metals, with carvings, beads, and gems featured around the entirety of the band. The beautiful, romantic, and enticing eternity band never went out of favor, and saw a resurgence in the early 1900’s. There are eternity bands from the 1920’s I’ve had a hard time parting with! However, it was the 1970’s, when this ring was made, that saw this timeless design and brought it back to a newfound popularity, thanks to De Beers. They marketed small-cut stones and suddenly eternity rings became fashionable with the elite.

You know that little restaurant in Monaco, by the bay, with the oysters? You know how the air is sultry, and the food is divine, and the company is always grand? Yeah, that place, with the large alcove windows, where they serve water in crystal. That’s where I wore this ring last, it rivaled the ocean with its majesty, seemed to shine extra bright so near it’s watery beginnings. The gray-blue and lustrous white pearls were enough to keep my eyes off of the view and on my finger. Who knew pearls could be so enticing? Oh wait, I did.
This antique pearl and diamond ring was handcrafted around 1890, I haven’t tested it, but I believe that these are likely natural pearls. There are six old European cut diamonds, set in clusters of three, on each end of the dual pearl ring face. Each diamond averages at around 2.28 mm in diameter, measuring approximately .05 carats each, .3 carats in total. The ring face measures 17 x 15 x 7 mm off the finger and the band width is 1.7 mm at the back. This ring weighs 5.3 grams and is a size 5.5. It bears no marks and has been acid tested.
This ring will fit in perfectly whether dressed up or dressed down. Trust me, I insist. That’s the magic of pearls, these stones from the sea are a versatile little gem, ready to show off at any moment.

My heart always gives a little flip when I see a beautiful Art Deco diamond ring like this one. It was a sleepy, rainy London afternoon and I was drinking too much coffee and trying to give each little gem that crossed my path it's fair due, when all I wanted to do was curl up and take a nap. Then, this lively ring jumped onto my hand and the sun cut through and these wonderful diamonds brightened up my whole day. So I brought it home just for you!
My grandmother would say that they are like 'hen's teeth', these fabulous Art Deco Filigree rings from around 1925-1930. Especially large ones like this, in this excellent condition. The center stone is a Old European cut diamond, one half carat in size, and extending the sparkle up and down the length of this ring are two other diamonds weighing just over .35 carats together.
Marked 18 KT inside the band for 18 karat gold, this white gold ring is very large both in style and in ring size. It is currently a size 9.75 and could be easily sized up or down. If you have long fingers or a larger hand, this is the ring you have been waiting for!! It is just stunning!

I stood on the balcony of a house in London, some might call it a mansion, some wouldn’t know the difference. The sky was blue, like in the movies. The air was crisp and sweet with a breeze that tickled the hairs on my arms. I held my soda water with a lemon in one hand, looking down at my fellow company, resting my other hand on the black railing. She yelled up to me, from below.
“That ring is blinding me, Victoria! Turn it off.” I laughed but refused to move. I was comfortable in the heat of the day, admiring the rocks on my finger.
“I wouldn’t if I could, my love.”
“Who knew the sun had competition?”
“Darling, I did.”

You know when you’re walking at twilight and the snow glitters by the light of the moon? Or when you wake up with the morning and you see dust glimmering in the sun’s rays? Or when you’re sitting at the edge of the pier, overlooking the lake, and the water seems to shine on for eternity against the setting sun? Yeah, this ring is kind of like that - but better. It’s a decadent never ending show of sparkle. Honestly, it’s like having your cake and eating it, too.

In ancient times, to test a diamond was very simple. Place the stone on an anvil and strike it with a hammer. If the stone broke, it wasn’t a diamond. The Romans believed diamonds were splinters of fallen stars. The Greeks believed diamonds were the tears of the gods. Some early civilizations believed that leaving a diamond uncut would preserve the stone’s magical properties. I’m not sure that cutting a diamond takes away its magical properties as this ring has be spell-bound.

You could give it to her as the sun is setting in May, while the flowers are closing to go to sleep, as you sit on the back porch. You could give it to her on her birthday, hide it inside her usual morning coffee mug, making sure she doesn’t pour coffee over it first. You could give it to her for Christmas, leave it in her stocking, wait for her to find it, and anticipate that wide-eyed look and delightful smile. Any which way you choose, it’ll be spectacular, and not just because of the ring, but because it’s you and her.
This vintage American ring was handcrafted in the 1930’s. It showcases a hexagonal ring face with a sparkly old European cut diamond at the center. This stone measures 1.5 mm in diameter.
