If only the passenger inside would lean a little closer to the window, we could see if it was royalty or not! My bet is on a Prince, perhaps one named Charming?
This wonderful brooch hit me in my whimsical spot and I just had to have it! The fantastic detail of the horses, the rich rubies giving the illusion of velvet curtains in the windows, even the wheels have tiny ruby and diamond details at the center, oh, and did I mention that they spin? The brooch is set with .75 carats in ruby and one little diamond. There’s just nothing about this fantastic piece that I don’t love, from the curve of the whip to the engraving on the carriage, the detail is simply fabulous! This large brooch measures 24.4 mm north to south and 54.1 mm across, it weighs 12.5 grams. This piece is marked with ‘750’ for 18 karat gold and ‘167 AL’ which is perhaps a production mark? It looks like the whip is white metal, I couldn’t manage to test it, I’m sure it’s either platinum or white gold.
This one is most likely English in origin, I purchased in London, it most likely dates to the late Art Deco era, circa 1930.
