Georgian 15k Gold Turquoise Hair Memorial Ring Grapes

In Victorian times the symbol of Grapes was often a symbol of Christ and of the Christian Faith. This ring features a bunch of grapes, represented by bright blue Persian Turquoise, set onto a branch which is made up of a ribbon of beautifully engraved 15 karat gold wrapped around a tube of woven hair. Before photographs, having the hair of a loved one was a strong and powerful reminder of that person and was often used in memorial jewelry and art, even ground up and used to paint miniatures and memorial scenes.

This wonderful late Georgian or early Victorian ring was hand crafted around 1830-50 in England. It is set with 6 turquoises of about 6mm and one smaller 1 mm stone. The ring itself measures 8.1 mm north to south and 20 mm across at the face, it sits 4.5 mm off the finger and narrows to 2.6 mm at the back of the band. This ring is a size 5.25 and would be impossible to resize, it weighs 2.3 grams. This one is unmarked so we’ve oh, so carefully acid tested it.
