Georgian Black Enamel Pearl Ring Locket Backed IMO Memorial Ring
If you lived and died in the Georgian, Victorian or Edwardian era and you were a person of means, you might well have left some money in your will for something just like this A ring, sometimes a brooch or pendant, to be made for the loved ones you leave behind.
This memorial ring was hand crafted in Chester, England in 1908, it features a wonderfully black enameled front with the letters ‘I.M.O’ in gold for In Memory Of. The ring is inscribed with the initials ‘M McQB’ and has a full set of English marks which show its place and year dates and it has a makers mark of ‘WGM’. The front is set with 18 small seed pearls and the back of the ring has a locket back which originally would have held a lock of the loved ones hair. The ring measures 7 mm north to south and 19 mm across at the front, it narrows to 3.2 mm at the back of the band. This ring is made in 9 karat gold and has marks for this as well, it’s a size 7.5 and weighs 2.7 grams.
