The air smelled crisp as dew dotted the green grass of a springtime morning. She wore her hair up in a messy ponytail with faded jeans and a sweater. The scarf around her neck was of silk and warmth, fastened together with a brooch as beautiful as that very morning. The colors of the topaz matched the flowers starting to open with the soft sunlight. It looked natural there, with her white scarf, against her olive skin. She put her hands in her pockets, and looked out at the day, smiling at it.
This antique Georgian topaz and turquoise gold floral brooch was handcrafted in France in about 1820-25. It’s a stunning 18 karat gold piece with flowers of pink and blue topaz and leaves of robin egg blue turquoise. There are 11 pink oval topaz stones and 17 blue oval topaz stones, each measuring 3.5 x 4.2 x 2 mm and weighing a total of approximately 5.88 carats. At the center of the pink topaz flower is an old European cut diamond, measuring 3.2 x 2.2 mm and weighing approximately .18 carats. There are eight oval cabochon turquoises. This brooch pin measures 35.3 x 58.2 mm and it weighs 7.0 grams. It is marked on the C clasp with the left facing ram’s head mark (used from 1819-1938) which indicated a minimum gold fineness of 18 karat/750. It comes in an antique box in which it was purchased by me and which helps to protect it, I’m fairly certain that box and brooch are not original to each other.
I didn’t want to share this beauty with the rest of the world but the more I looked at it, the more I realized it would be a crime not to. This is a gorgeous masterpiece, I hope you enjoy it.
A note from Victoria: This piece is not in perfect condition. One of the gold leaves is broken off from the bottom, and you can see the base of this leaf just by the gold ball to the left of the central pink topaz in the first photo. I thought it was so incredibly beautiful that I was willing to forgive it this small flaw. I checked with my jeweler on repairing it, but he agreed that it is lovely as is and said that a repair may cause it to be less beautiful, not more.

The word “agate” stems from the Greek word “Achetes” which was a river in which agate was first discovered. Agate has been used since the Neolithic ear in which Sumerians used agate to craft jewelry, seals, etc. Mithridates, the King of Pontus, adored agate. He had three thousand bowls carved out of this stone! Agate is a common semi-precious chalcedony that appears in a variety of forms including colored bands and moss-like inclusions.
This vintage Scandinavian silver and agate ring was handcrafted around 1960. A lightly banded smooth white agate sits at the center of a silver leaf motif. The silver prongs look like flower buds encapsulating the agate and covering it in nature. The stone measures 22.5 x 19.3 x 14.5 mm and is oval cabochon cut. The ring face measures 32.7 x 32.2 x 22.5 mm off the finger with a band width of 3.5 mm. It has been acid tested and bears the maker’s mark, “T.S.R”. This ring is a size 8.75. It weighs 16.4 grams.
In the Middle Ages, wearing agate was thought to cure insomnia and ensure sweet dreams. Victorians made the agate a thing of beauty to adorn oneself in. By the mid-1800s, this trend was at its height of fashion. This 60s ring turns agate into a statement piece which is sure not to go unnoticed.

I found this precious golden bauble on my last buying trip, in England. It was a misty day, but one of those English ones, so the gray clouds seemed cheerful and happy. I walked the city to arrive at the Sunday morning market a mere moments after it opened, stopping for a coffee along the way. The booth of first person I wanted to see was crowded, so I waited (im)patiently, standing just off to the side. As I waiting I looked through the case at the next booth over and spotted this wonderful locket. At first glance, I assumed this was meant for a lady with the initials of MD, meaning it was to be rich in history, and loved dearly. My mother has the initials ‘MD’ and so I asked to look at it, thinking of her birthday just a few weeks away. When he handed it to me to have a look I was struck by how weighty it was, and when I opened it I was delighted by the contents, it turned out that MD wasn’t for a person, it was for an education!
This unique vintage 9 karat gold doctor’s bag pendant was handcrafted in England, in 1945. The front and back are both engraved with the letters, ‘MD’, which stand for ‘Medical Doctor’. This fun pendant opens to reveal three golden doctor tools! Inside, there is a syringe, a scissors, and a stethoscope. This pendant measures 26 x 23.4 x 12.2 mm and weighs 15.6 grams. It is fully hallmarked with the mark for London, the gold purity marks, ‘9’, and ‘.375’, the date letter, ‘k’, and a maker’s mark.
For the medical school graduate in your life, or just a fabulous charm to keep all to yourself, because honestly, it’s adorable, this pendant is perfect!

Nature often inspired Art Nouveau jewelry, and this sparkling dragonfly brooch is no exception! During this era of artistry, dragonfly motifs grew in popularity and ended up on dresses, rings, hair pins, and necklaces. Dragonflies signify the embracing of change, as they can swoop, fly, vanish, and dart in the blink of an eye. They’re a graceful creature, that has been known to bring peace to those who have recently lost a loved one. This pin would stand out on the lapels of a white jacket, or function fashionably on the ends of a warm scarf.
This antique Art Nouveau ruby and diamond dragonfly brooch was handcrafted in France around 1900. The glittery wings and winking eyes are made up of 28 rose cut diamonds, while the body is made of eight faceted deep pink rubies. All of the gemstones are silver set and backed in 18 karat gold. This piece is hallmarked with the French gold purity content mark of an eagle’s head. It has been acid tested. The overall measurements are 32.6 x 38.7 mm with a weight of 6.5 grams.
Have all of your nature-inspired dreams come true with this French dragonfly brooch!
