Ornately Engraved Gold Georgian Locket with Portraits

Made at a time when pocket watches were very much coming into fashion, this fantastic locket has the heft and feel of a timepiece but in fact contains two portraits under thick glass. These instant ancestors have such character in their faces, and those lamb chops are truly noteworthy.
This fantastic late Georgian locket was hand crafted in England in about 1800 of 15 karat gold over a metal frame, a technique known as ‘front and back’. The locket is that perfect Goldilocks size, not too big and not too small. This locket is fantastically engraved with different designs front and back and even the interior is beautifully finished and detailed. The locket measures 54.5 mm from top to bottom and 31.5 mm across, it’s 10.7 mm thick, opens easily and closes with a satisfying little snap. This locket is unmarked but tests as 15 karat, it weighs 18.8 grams.
