When in France, I’m always on the lookout for fabulous French slide lockets, I love them all, from the plain to the elaborate, they tend to be large and they just command such presence when worn. I found this one to be particularly beguiling, the details on it are so realistic it looks like you could reach out and pluck the flowers, maybe tuck one in your hair.
Hand crafted in France, probably right at the beginning of the Art Nouveau period, this wonderful locket has a velvet-like bloomed finish and slides open to reveal a mirror on one side and a frame on the other. Right now it contains a wonderful photograph of a baby, but you could put in it whatever you like. This large locket is decorated the same front and back and measures 75.4 mm north to south and 46.3 mm across, it’s 10 mm thick. This French pendant is marked with the Boar’s Head and a makers mark, it weighs 32.4 grams.

Who this lovely lady is, I just do not know. She was someones daughter, that much is for certain. Was she someones mother, someones one true love? Her stylish dress and bright ribbons show her playful spirit and the artist has depicted her with sleepy, bedroom eyes. Perhaps she commissioned this little portrait for her husband, so that he could gaze upon her visage at will? I guess we’ll never know for certain, but I was charmed by her wiles and I think you might be, too!
Handcrafted in about 1820, this early locket features and enamel portrait in miniature on its front and an elaborately engraved engine turned design to its reverse. The locket measures 37.8 top to bottom and 28 mm across and it weighs 9.3 grams. This piece has no marks but we’ve carefully acid tested it and it comes up as 18 karat gold. I purchased this lovely locket in France and I suspect it was made there as well.

The average life expectancy of a woman born in 1800 in England was about 35 years. By comparison, dear Mary Ann Gillett’s life of 67 years must have seemed quite long and luxurious. Her life was celebrated with the construction of this amazing locket which contains a lock of her hair clasped with seed pearls and gold wire, opposite her hair is an elaborately engraved plaque with her name and the date of her death.
This stunning locket is in amazing condition, likely due to living most of its life in its original fitted box. The front is set with ten pearls and a banded agate and decorated in rich black and white enamel, it reads ‘In Memory Of’. The back of the locket is equally beautiful and showcases a spray of ivy leaves (sorry, we could have cleaned it better!). This locket measures 54 mm north to south and 31.8 mm across, it’s 10.9 mm thick and weighs 24.4 grams; it has no hallmarks, but careful acid testing reveals it to be made of 18 karat gold. This beautiful piece was hand crafted in England in about 1874. The interior inscription reads: ‘Mary Ann Gillett, died 20th Aug..st 1874, Aged 67’. The locket is presented in it’s original fitted box lined in blue velvet, together the locket and box weigh 50.6 grams.
The presence of white enamel on memorial pieces sometimes symbols that the person was unmarried, perhaps the reason Mary Ann lived to such a ripe old age was that she didn’t have to go through the perils of childbirth?

It was one of her uncontrollable urges; to pull the car over to the side of road and explore old broken down houses. She was in the outskirts of Annecy when the urge struck. The house was brick, once tall and wide in all its glory, now it was half gone but oh so enticing. She snuck around to the back of the property to find an opening in the fence. Overgrown gardens had taken over trellises, climbing high in their attempts to get closer to the sun. She padded through the maze of sunflowers and vines until she came upon a back door, half ajar. She stepped inside to find an antique parlor with a dust covered mirror and a black washed vanity. She sat on the dusty bench in front of the vanity and pulled opened the top drawer. A gasp escaped her mouth when she saw the collar and locket, shiny, untouched for years, protected from weather inside this sturdy wooden chest. She placed it around her neck and peered into the mirror, just to see, before putting it back in its place and slipping out the back door, back to her car, back to her life, as if she was never there.

We were at Tower Restaurant, enjoying the dark Belgian chocolate terrine on a terrace with a remarkable view of the city, when I reached for my Negroni. My finger caught a glint of the fading pink sunlight.
“I hide you in here, you know?” I asked as I saw his eyes dart towards it.
“Do you now?” he asked back, with a laugh in his eye.
“I do.” I said sincerely and returned the silent chuckle.
I took a sip, listening to the sounds of the Royal Mile, and drinking in the company I’d chosen to keep. We laughed long after the sun had evanesced.
This gorgeous and highly unusual locket-ring was handcrafted in Scotland around 1800. It was made in 9 karat gold and features a lion rampant intaglio with a hidden locket that tucks inside the ring face. The initials, “A.F.” can be found on the front, right below the lion. There are a variety of hallmarks, it bears early Scottish marks that date it to 1799-1800 in Edinburgh. It also has a set of later assay marks, bearing the gold purity marks, “9” and “.375”, the letter, “c”, the queen in profile, the letter, “T”, and patent marks, “PAT 706” and “148”. The ring face measures 13.4 mm north to south, 13 mm across, and 3.4 mm off the finger. The band width narrows to 2.3 mm at the back. This Georgian ring is a size 10 and it weighs 5.7 grams.
Indulge your finger in antique gold, with hidden compartments and mysterious initials. This is one of my favorite pieces, I love the tiny details that require second glances. This ring is filled with symbolism known to the original wearer and my imagination has been running wild with curiosity ever since I got my hands on it in Scotland earlier this year.

He told her he’d be back. She waited. The weeks turned to months and the months turned into a year. He was at sea, at home on the wild waves of the ocean. She never lost hope as he was always with her, hanging from a chain clasped around her neck, his handsome face in a photograph. He had gifted it to her as a symbol of devotion, of fidelity. MIZPAH, the romantic biblical phrase expressing safe return while being apart, was embossed on the front of her locket. After a year, he returned unharmed, and happy to be back to her, his sweetheart.
This antique silver locket was handcrafted around 1880. The front of this piece is embossed with the word, “MIZPAH”. Inside this oval locket are two frames lined in turquoise fabric. Overall, this piece measures 48 x 32 x 9 mm and it weighs 21.3 grams.
The thing about lockets is they become yours. They hold your photographs. They keep your secrets. They know your meaning. Their beauty and history is just a plus.
Mizpah is Hebrew for ‘watchtower’ and is mentioned in the bible story of Jacob and Laban, who made a pile of stones to mark an agreement with God watching as their witness, it means “may the Lord watch between thee and me when we are apart, one from the other”.

From Genesis 31:49:
And Mizpah; for he said, The Lord watch between me and thee, when we are absent one from another.
Oh, those lovely sentimental Victorians, they did love any kind of symbolism, whether it was ivy leaves to say ‘I cling to thee’ or flowers to express ‘forget me not’, from horseshoe for luck to hearts and birds for love. They were especially fond of the term ‘Mizpah’ and a locket like this would have been given from one lover to another to indicate their endearment during a period of separation, or sometimes as a mourning token when separated by death.
This fantastic Mizpah locket is one of the nicest that I’ve ever had the pleasure of owning. It is fully repousséd on the front with a deep pattern and the word ‘Mizpah’ and is beautifully engraved on the back. The locket is a wonderful not too big, not too small size and is hand crafted with wonderful detail in 9 karat gold. It measures 45 mm long and 28.7 mm across, and weighs 11.4 grams. It has two inside frames to hold photos. The locket is unmarked but has been carefully acid tested to verify it’s content.
The sweet and lovely locket was made in England in about 1880.

Sometimes I come across a piece witch is so finely crafted, so interesting and so unique that I can’t help but hurry home to research it as much as I possibly can. Sometimes my searching turns up instant and easy results, other times I just have to go with the clues I can find and wonder if I’ve managed to get anywhere near the truth.
In the case of this locket, I couldn’t figure out who the artist was, it’s French and it’s beautifully designed by someone who was a true master of his craft, that much is obvious. The back of the locket is engraved with a Stag holding a plaque, standing on a log with a four pointed coronet above him. I believe that this particular motif is of the house the English Baron of Berwick. It think that perhaps this wonderful piece belonged to Edith Teresa Hulton, who became Lady Berwick when she married the 8th Baron, Thomas Noel-Hill.. She was a striking and very stylish lady with piercing blue eyes and fine features. She was the daughter of an artist, William Stokes Hulton and Costanza Mazini, and grew up in Venice. Her father was a painter, whose artist friends included Sickert and Sargent, whilst her mother was half-Italian and had strong links to the literary and artistic community of Florence. She was a very interesting woman who served as a nurse during WWI, and met her husband when he was serving in Italy. They were married in 1917 and lived in the English country manor at Attingham Park.
This Art Nouveau locket was crafted in about 1900-1910 of 18 karat gold. It’s in the shape of a orchid flower and shows a lovely girl who seems to be a part of the flower, her hair and the petals flowing together in an animated swirl. The locket is quite substantial, it measures 47.5 mm north to south and 31.4 mm across and weighs 16.4 grams. It is marked on the top with the French eagles head mark which indicates a minimum fineness of 18 karat gold. The locket contains one frame to hold your image and the front is pierce so that whatever you put inside shows through, we’ve shown it with a piece of blue fabric.
Give a piece of history to that inspirational person in your life, or inspire yourself with a gift just for you. Trust me, you don’t need a reason.

As baubles go, this one is extraordinary. A nod to the vanished elegance of a time gone by, a time of castles, mansions, and chateaux, when beautiful people dressed for dinner and women came into a room in a flutter of the softest silk and smoothest velvet. Chandeliers were lit, fires crackled, candelabras blazed, turning garnets like these into rich luminous velvety drops against alabaster skin.
Gorgeously hand made in England in about 1870, this wonderful locket is set with a rich and velvety large oval cabochon cut garnet. The garnet measures 20 x 15 mm and is set in 15 karat yellow gold. The front is embellished with the twisted wirework and beadwork that was the signature of Etruscan revival style. This locket measures 50 mm north to south and 27.4 mm across, it contains two frames with glass all ready to hold photos of your loved ones close to your heart. The locket weighs 17.9 grams and has no hallmarks, it has been carefully acid tested to verify the gold content.
Large, richly red cabochon garnets like this one just make my heart go pitter pat. They beg for intimate dinner parties in cold months with roaring fires and blazing candelabras.

She wore it on a chain around her neck, a gift from her father. She remembered how when she was young, he would hang this charm from the chain of his pocket watch, always checking the time, never wanting to be late, but not too early either. He would tuck it into the breast pocket of his jacket for close keeping, making sure to never stick a pen in there for fear of it exploding over his precious trinkets. He was the gentlemanly type, opening the door for his wife, sharing his umbrella with strangers, lending his suit jacket to her when she was cold.
This antique Victorian niello locket fob was handcrafted in England around 1880. The round locket opens to reveal two frames inside, both lined in blue. You’ve been there, done that. It’s time to move on, to something a little more…compelling. Audacious. Dare I say it, irresistible? I have just the locket. It’s addictive. I wore it in Beziers in August to watch the bullfighting. In spring, I found it went well in Cove Bay, while picnicking on the sands. It’s big enough to hold a photo or a secret, but not big enough for a snack.
This stunning antique silver locket was handcrafted in Birmingham, England, in 1882, during the Victorian era. It’s an ornate piece decorated in foliate motifs on both the front and the back. The back also features engraved flowers and a banner. This oval locket measures 60.5 x 38.8 x 12.5 mm and it weighs 11.6 grams. When opened, one frame is revealed, ready for a beautiful photograph of your own. It bears the anchor mark for Birmingham, the date letter, “h”, and the lion passant mark for sterling silver. The maker’s mark reads, “I.W”.
Sensibility lies in the eye of the beholder. I’m sure that’s the phrase. In any case, it’s rather a rock-solid argument for wearing the things you love whenever your heart desires. Trust me, your heart will want this locket strung around your neck and hanging near it every day of the week.

My love for lockets stems from the idea that they become yours. They hold your photographs, they keep your secrets, they know your meaning. Their beauty and history are just a plus. During my time in Europe shopping for beautiful things I learned lockets appeared in the continent sometime during the 16th century. They were worn to hide good luck charms, perfume, or tiny love letters. Ladies of the court liked to fill theirs with smelling salts, as the ballroom heat could cause quite a bit of fainting. As time went on, the popularity of lockets spread to the middle class where they were given as gifts within a gift, with a painted portrait of a lover’s eye, a small note, or a private token, tucked clandestinely inside.
This antique silver collar and locket set was handcrafted around 1876. It’s a Victorian set made in Birmingham, England. It bears an embossed placket motif. Inside the locket is a portrait of a beautiful young lady sporting a brooch. The oval locket measures 59.5 x 33.5 mm and the chain it hangs from measures 18.5 inches in length. This set weighs 34 grams. It has been fully hallmarked and bears the lion mark for English sterling silver, the date letter mark, “b”, the anchor mark for Birmingham, and a maker’s mark which reads, “E.R”. The chain is also marked, as it contains the silver fineness mark, “925” and the maker’s mark, “CBL”. This wonderful set could be worn together or separately, the chain can be worn with any sort of beautiful bauble, the locket would look equal stunning as a chocker on a simple black cord.
The best piece of advice I can give to an antique jewelry wearer is let it become yours. Don’t let it wear you, wear it. Dress it however you desire. A piece like this can be fancy or casual, date-night ready or lounging night-in.

It was time for the cheese course, before the exquisite chocolate mousse was to come. We were served Roquefort and la Tomme – a little salty for my taste but opulent none the less. He’d been unsubtly awaiting my attention all evening. Is that your grandmother? Is who my grandmother? That woman in the locket. I took a sip of my Perrier. Darling no, I’ve never met her, but she’s fabulous isn’t she. He grinned as he reached for his wine and toasted to the mystery woman in the locket.
Lockets like these are meant for public attention, to display your personal treasures, like a picture frame around the neck. This antique Victorian gold locket was handcrafted in England around 1890. It displays a gold garland-style frame made in 9 karat gold. It’s round in shape, measures 40.5 x 34.7 mm, and weighs 5.3 grams. It bears no marks and has been acid tested.

At first, you’ll reserve it for occasions that require little black dresses or nude heels. As time goes by you’ll realize that you want to wear it all the time. The gold feels cool against the skin and quickly warms to the touch the look is somehow timeless, despite its age. You’ll contemplate wearing it as you run errands. It might be too risqué for the grocery store, but I say let them judge. This not-so-casual watch chain necklace is the type of thing that starts rebellions, and you are just the type to stir the air.

Consider the facts. There’s gold, glass, and quite possibly nothing in between. It hangs from the neck. It glints in the sun. It shows off a photograph, but only if you need it to. Now, consider the opportunities. With that short blue dress and ballet flats. With those high waisted trousers and Birkenstocks. On a veranda, twenty floors up, overlooking the lights of LA in the heat of the summer. With a glass of red. Swaying to the sounds of sleepless city below.

My romantic side swoons over pendants like these. The lady whose lover gifted her this locket was a lucky woman. Her husband would have left for the Great War, unsure of his return, around 1914. Upon his leaving he would have given his love this locket with a picture of him, so she would never be truly without him. This sentimental piece was known as sweetheart locket, or a wartime locket. It was a simple token of fidelity, a memento to last forever.

This English military motto translates as, “Everywhere - that right and glory lead.” It also indicates sacred duty. This pendant is locket backed and lined in pink fabric. It measures 39 x 27 mm and weighs 5.1 grams. It bears the silver fineness mark, “STERLING”.

The thing about lockets is, they become yours. They hold your photographs. They keep your secrets. They know your meaning. Their beauty and history is just a plus. Lockets began to appear in Europe sometime during the 16th century. They were worn to hide good luck charms, perfume, or tiny love letters. Ladies of the court liked to fill theirs with scents, as the ballroom heat could cause quite a bit of fainting. The popularity of lockets spread to the middle class where they were given as gifts within a gift, with a painted portrait of a lover’s eye, a small note, or a private token, tucked clandestinely inside.
This antique Victorian pearl and enamel locket was handcrafted around 1890 in England. It features a fantastic starburst motif on the front made up of pearls with enamel details. When opened, the inside reveals two frames awaiting your favorite photographs! This pendant measures 51.5 x 31.5 x 12.5 mm and weighs 17.6 grams. It bears no marks and has been acids tested.
Wearing a charm like this locket was considered essential for day wear, especially after Prince Albert gifted his beloved Queen Victoria a bracelet of nine heart lockets, in honor of each of their children.

Those of you who swing by this shop once in a while might know it already, but I have a seriously strong weakness for all things Art Nouveau. Seeing the Metro gates in Paris last spring sent me into a tizzy of delight. When I was in art school (oh, so long ago), all of my notebooks and sketch books were filled with sketches of whiplashes, flowers and and beautiful profiles. So, you can see how I was perfectly helpless when presented with this fantastic Art Nouveau frame locket.
This antique Art Nouveau gold locket pendant was handcrafted in England around 1900. It features an ornate golden frame with a whiplash motif, set with seven oval amethysts with a long pearl drop. This English beauty is done all in 9 karat gold kissed with a rosy hue. Each amethyst measures 5 x 3.5 mm. Overall, this piece measures 68 x 36 x 5 mm and it weighs 11.6 grams. It has been acid tested to verify the gold content. The glass has a few small nicks from the edge, visible in the photos.
Amethyst is my February birthstone and there was no stopping me from bringing this beauty home and giving it a spot in my own jewel box for awhile.

She vaguely heard the front door of the manor house open and close and briefly wondered who had come. Someone to see her father, no doubt. Moments later her door opened and the housekeeper handed her a small, round bouquet of flowers set on a silver plate. A tussie-mussie, she thought, delighted. There was no note, no indication of where it had come from, just the flowers. She looked at them closely, she knew the language of the flowers, as any Victorian lady would; there were roses for love and chamomile for patience, forget-me-not for hope and remembrance, and hidden within were pansies, whose message was one of secret devotion. When she saw the pansies tucked away inside she smiled, she didn’t need a card to know the exact gentleman who had sent her this, and joy bubbled up from her toes. Years later he gave her this locket, a secret nod to that shared, hidden moment when she had first known that she loved him.
This fantastic locket was hand crafted in 18 karat gold in about 1880, most likely in France. It is set with 8 (probably natural) pearls with a rich creamy luster and a touch of a gray hue. The locket is done in gold kissed with a rosy hue, the pearls are set in silver and the wonderful pansy flower is beautifully engraved and finished. The interior of this locket has a double sided, bezeled glass center that hinges freely to see both sides, so that you can set two photos into the center glass. This mechanism and the finish on the pansy make me think that this locket was made in France, it also has a French diamond shaped makers mark, but not French assay marks. It’s an exquisitely made piece that is a perfect, wearable locket size (not too big, not too small) at 51 mm top to bottom including the bale and 28.5 mm across, it weighs 20.2 grams. This locket has been acid tested to verify the gold content.
This wonderful pansy locket would be the perfect gift of love, secret or not.

She wore it around her neck as she stepped barefoot over oceanside rocks, with waves sprinkling water droplets on her ankles. She was wandering along the shoreline, looking down at the starfish and coral that thrived below the surface. Her locket dangled and swung with each step, as if it was looking at the wildlife along with her. She saw what she had been searching for and pulled a branching piece of seagrass from the waters. She jumped back to the sand, and sat on the grains that had been heated by the sun. Carefully, she placed the green seagrass inside her locket. She laid back and watched the clouds roll by.

How could he have known? She didn’t say anything. Yet, somehow, the pendant she had been secretly lusting over online for months was in the velvet black box he just gave to her. She looked at him, stunned, happy, and surprised in the best way. He smiled at her, with a look of slyness and charm. He walked around her, helping her put it around her neck, slightly touching her skin with his fingertips. It looked perfect there, his heart, hanging right next to hers.

The opening of trade relations with Japan in 1853 had a heavy influence on Victorian jewelry. Fashion and accessories brought back from travelers led to imitations and artistic influences during the Grand Period (1861 – 1885). This increased exposure to Japanese craftsmanship gave way to this “Japonaise” style which was incorporated into all aspects of art, fashion, architecture, and design with stylized fans, cattail weeds, dragons, insects, bamboo, etc. Silver jewelry boomed in Birmingham, England during this same time, particularly with novelty themed jewelry, just like this beautiful locket.
This antique Victorian REGARD locket with its Japanese inspired motif was handcrafted around 1880. It features a motif of a robed man sitting next to bamboo growing tall, with the word, “Regard” engraved in the upper right-hand corner. The inside reveals two covered frames lined in blue fabric, just perfect for two photographs. Overall, this locket measures 59.7 x 29.5 x 8.8 mm and weighs 23.6 grams. It has been professionally acid tested.
Regard was a common motif found in Victorian jewelry, as it was meant as a shortened version of the phrase “with my regards”, as though it was at the end of a long love letter, or “I highly regard you”, meaning someone holds you dearly to their heart.

Peter Jackson stole it as the motif of the Elven folk, Lothlorián is steeped in it. Who can blame him? The sublimely curved arches and whiplashes of the Art Nouveau period speak to the soul in some sort of ageless way, a light and lofty quality that whispers of tranquility. The airy arch on this French beauty is overgrown by sweet pea flowers so three dimensional, you can almost smell them.
This gorgeous Art Nouveau silver slide locket was handcrafted around 1890 in France. It features a repousse flower motif on both sides with two beveled mirrors hidden inside. It’s an oval shape and weighs 35.9 grams with an overall measurement of 72 x 40.6 mm. This beautiful locket is hallmarked with the French word, “DEPOSE”, a diamond cartouche, and other French hallmarks. It has been acid tested.

The Greek Key motif is an ancient design found as far back as 6,000 BC in early farming communities in Anatolia, as well as on pottery from the Neolithic period in Europe. It was designed in many forms, such as a continuous rigid lined form, like on this locket, or as a curved and angular variation based on spiral scrolls and circles. The Georgian Era saw the rediscovery of Pompeii and Herculaneum in Italy. It was only a matter of time before architecture was inspired by the highly detailed interiors of these cities’ buildings. Jewelry followed thereafter and aided in the neoclassical and Greek Revival movements.

Lockets began to appear in Europe sometime during the 16th century. They were worn to hide good luck charms, perfume, or tiny love letters. In Shakespeare’s ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’, a juice is made from the pansy that becomes a love potion. When applied to the sleeping lids of an unsuspecting person, they fall in love with whatever they’re eyes see upon waking.
Discretion was key during the Victorian Era. If a gentleman wanted to woo a young woman, he would often have to do so secretly. Displays of affection were frowned upon so creative measures had to be taken. Pansies were hidden inside a bundle of herbs, known as a “tussie-mussie” with a few scattered flowers. This bouquet was given to the lady to let her know he was thinking of her. But why do pansies signify love at all? The word “pansy” stems from the French “pensée”, which means, “thought”. What better way to express fondness that to confess that they’re always on your mind?
This beautiful antique silver slide locket was handcrafted around 1910. It features stunning enamel work depicting a purple pansy in breathtaking detail. This locket was made in Europe and weighs 43 grams. It measures 59.4 x 46 x 6.5 mm. When slid open, it reveals a frame on the back door awaiting a photograph! It is marked, “900” for the silver purity content.
I can’t promise this stunning locket will make anyone fall in love with you, but I also can’t say that it won’t.

Compacts were becoming popular around the turn of the 20th century. However, makeup wasn’t entirely socially acceptable. If a lady ventured into a beauty store, she would try and sneak in through the back. Some boutiques had secret hidden doors for the most important of the clientele. The idea of blending blush onto your cheeks in public was absurd. So, the clever women of the time decided to hide their powders, creams, and rouge in witty ways. Makeup could be found in pendants, like this piece, brooches, pocketbooks, bangles, and even walking sticks. Lipsticks could be found hidden away in the handle of a hairbrush!
By the 1920s and 30s, compacts were no longer considered scandalous. They were stylized to the season and the trends of the times. For decades, the designs grew in detail, extravagance and purpose. This beautiful blue enamel compact pendant was handcrafted around 1910, likely in Germany. It’s a beautiful antique piece made in silver and marked, “800”. The front and back of this darling pendant features bright blue enamel over a perlée pattern, showing a high quality of craftsmanship. Disguised as a watch, this compact opens from the top to reveal a compact and powder puff. On one side, there is a frame, for a photo or small mirror. The other side holds a cover that when lifted shows a powder puff of white and pink fabric. Overall, this compact pendant weighs 32.4 grams and measures 51.5 x 38 mm.
The Edwardian era was the beginning of making makeup and compacts culturally acceptable. Even makeup counters were (slowly) being introduced to stores. Women spent hours applying creams to their skin as skin care was the most important aspect of the makeup routine. Rouge for those rosy cheeks, matchsticks for those smoky eyes, eyebrow pencils for that thin brow line, and plotting paper for a light complexion were the mainstays of the era.

Cupid’s golden arrow would shoot true love through the air to pierce an unsuspecting heart. His arrow of lead, however, would spread something else, something sinister; it would make a heart run away. The symbol of the arrow carries a sentiment of romance and lust, of chance and of risk; for it glitters, but it wounds. To the Victorians, an arrow could also refer to mortality, as at its core, an arrow is a deadly weapon.
This antique European locket was handcrafted around 1880. The enameled front features an adorable cherub pulling an arrow from his pack and holding a bow in his other hand. He’s on a beach with a swan in the background and tropical trees all around. Due to love and wear, this hefty pendant locket has two tiny chips in the enamel, one at the very top and a slightly larger one at the side. This piece was made in 18 karat gold and has been acid tested. When opened, a space for a keepsake is revealed. The overall measurements of this locket are 31.7 x 24 x 7.5 mm, and it weighs 9.2 grams.
For a stylish conversation starter, this cherub locket with shiny gold will most certainly do.

I found this precious golden bauble on my last buying trip, in England. It was a misty day, but one of those English ones, so the gray clouds seemed cheerful and happy. I walked the city to arrive at the Sunday morning market a mere moments after it opened, stopping for a coffee along the way. The booth of first person I wanted to see was crowded, so I waited (im)patiently, standing just off to the side. As I waiting I looked through the case at the next booth over and spotted this wonderful locket. At first glance, I assumed this was meant for a lady with the initials of MD, meaning it was to be rich in history, and loved dearly. My mother has the initials ‘MD’ and so I asked to look at it, thinking of her birthday just a few weeks away. When he handed it to me to have a look I was struck by how weighty it was, and when I opened it I was delighted by the contents, it turned out that MD wasn’t for a person, it was for an education!
This unique vintage 9 karat gold doctor’s bag pendant was handcrafted in England, in 1945. The front and back are both engraved with the letters, ‘MD’, which stand for ‘Medical Doctor’. This fun pendant opens to reveal three golden doctor tools! Inside, there is a syringe, a scissors, and a stethoscope. This pendant measures 26 x 23.4 x 12.2 mm and weighs 15.6 grams. It is fully hallmarked with the mark for London, the gold purity marks, ‘9’, and ‘.375’, the date letter, ‘k’, and a maker’s mark.
For the medical school graduate in your life, or just a fabulous charm to keep all to yourself, because honestly, it’s adorable, this pendant is perfect!

Mourning jewelry has existed for centuries, it saw a rise in popularity during the 1800s, especially after Prince Albert, Queen Victoria’s beloved husband, passed in 1861. Mass production of these customized pieces took hold and even the working class had an opportunity to purchase a memorial token.
Mourning jewelry emerged long before photography existed, as a way to commemorate a loved one. To the Victorians, trumpets signified the day of judgement. They were interpreted as victory, as celebration. When surrounded by black enamel and topped with a pearl, it typically meant that the wearer was mourning the loss of a child. They were celebrating a life well-lived and years of shared love. I wouldn’t doubt, that at one time, there was a photograph or portrait miniature of the deceased inside this locket.
This antique Victorian black enameled and gold heart locket was handcrafted around 1870 in England. The front features a golden trumpet, surrounded by an array of golden flowers. A 2 mm diameter pearl decorates the instrument. When opened, two frames are revealed, they’re lined in pretty pink fabric and ready to hold your favorite photographs! This piece measures 39 x 29 x 10.5 mm and weighs 10.7 grams. It has been acid tested as 15k gold.
This beautiful locket isn’t strictly for remembering lost loves, but for holding pictures of current ones! Such as your significant other, or your dog!

To the Victorians, the buckle represented eternity, much like the snake motif. A buckle, essentially, wraps around itself and secures itself tightly in place, it’s strong, sturdy, and never ending. It signifies strength and protection. Sometimes, a buckle, such as the one featured on this locket, is also a garter, representative of the most prestigious order in England, The Order of the Garter. It was established by King Edward III in 1348, and still holds strong today. It’s an order of chivalry, and of honor.
This wonderful antique Victorian silver locket was handcrafted in England, around 1880. It’s an oval locket which features an engraved buckle garter motif stretching diagonally across the front. When opened, it reveals a frame on the backdoor where a photograph can be kept! It measures 54 x 32 x 11.4 mm and weighs 13.2 grams. This locket is unmarked and has been acid tested.
If you’re looking for a classic and stylish piece, don’t hesitate, this one won’t stick around for long!

He was gone for a long time, maybe a year, maybe two. It was a sea Captain’s life and he wore the honor proudly. Sometimes though, when the clouds were heavy and the sky was dark, he’d think of home and his stomach would knot ever so slightly. He’d remember how his wife smelled of freshly baked cakes, and that grin on her face when he told a bad joke. He remembered his daughter, running through the backdoor with muddy shoes from playing near the pond. So, in his locket he kept the smallest of portraits of them, both smiling, both happy, both waiting for him to come home.
This handsome antique shield shaped gold locket was handcrafted in Birmingham, England, in 1905. Detailed engravings on the front feature a shield surrounded by swirling vines and steady lines. The back bears a motif of similar vines as well as the hallmarks. This piece is fully marked with the gold purity numbers, ‘925’, and ‘.375’, as well as an anchor mark for Birmingham, and the letter code ‘f’ for the year 1905. The maker’s mark reads, ‘L.W&O’. Inside this regal locket are two frames, shield shaped and ready to hold your favorite photographs. The overall measurements are 31.5 x 18.2 x 5.6 mm. It weighs 5.0 grams.
I can’t get over how perfect this locket is. There’s something about it that’s so intriguing. Maybe it’s the gold or the details. Maybe it’s the style or the shine. Either way, this shield locket pendant should be yours.

The receiver of this locket was clearly held with a high admiration. It dons the blue buckle symbol for The Order of the Garter, founded in 1348 by King Edward III. It’s an Order of chivalry and the third most prestigious honor one can receive in the United Kingdom today. The Order of the Garter buckle symbolizes holding a loved one close.
Rumor has it, the Countess of Salisbury was dancing with the King. Upon twirling, her blue garter fell to the floor, revealing itself to the entire ballroom. Courtiers laughed at her expense until the King picked up her garter, placed it on his own leg, and declared, “Shame on him who thinks evil of it!”. Hence, the blue buckle symbol on this handsome locket.
This Antique Mid Victorian gold locket pendant boasts an Order of the Garter buckle on the front and a photograph of a gallant gentleman on the back. It was handcrafted in England in 9 karat gold and has been acid tested. Ornate engraving graces the front of this oval pendant, surrounding a blue enamel buckle. A shield is engraved at the very center. This piece weighs 3.2 grams and measures 26 x 19.2 x 4 mm.
Personalize this piece with your own photograph or engrave an initial onto the front shield. Gift it as is, for it’s very special and very intriguing, indeed.

A strand of pearls has been the ladies accessory of choice for millennia, and will likely continue to be the classic standard of adornment for millennia to come. Sometimes a simple strand of smooth and shimmering beads is perfect all on it’s own, but at other times it begs for a little something extra. Some pendants are made to be the perfect addition to a strand of pearls, that little something more that turns a simple strand into an enticing necklace. This wonderful pendant could also be worn on a chain, but hanging on a strand of pearls is where it’s really meant to be!
This hand crafted, locket backed, pendant is set with a glowing burgundy garnet at it’s center. The 11 mm garnet is surrounded by ten beautiful and shining creamy white half pearls, these are extremely well matched and seem original to the pendant, they measure between 5 and 6 mm each. The top bale is set with an additional three pearls and has an open style bale that makes it easy to hang over a pearl string or wear on a golden chain or even a simple cord. The pendant measures 31.5 mm north to south and 21.3 mm across and weighs 7.2 grams. This lovely pendant/locket is not marked but we’ve acid tested it and it’s crafted in 18 karat gold.
This wonderful Victorian piece was most likely made in England around 1880.

Sometimes, I imagine the history of people. Take the woman inside my locket, maybe her photograph was taken just before she burst out laughing at her husband as he screamed at a spider that fell from the ceiling. He knocked over a chair just to find out it was only a piece of a rusty autumn leaf blowing around the room with open windows.
This gold and bloodstone locket was handcrafted in 9 karat gold and is engraved with ornate details. The bloodstone forms a sturdy shield on the front bordered by beautiful gold designs. The back is stunning with floral and ornate engravings, revealing a sense of care and prestige. Inside is a faded photograph of a woman donning earrings and a hat. It has been acid tested and weighs 11.4 grams.
I adore this regal locket, it's not only gorgeous, it’s a mystery that intrigues me!

He was everything to her, the one she would grow old with and sit on park benches with, watching pigeons peck the ground. So she decided to take him with her, until her own bittersweet end. All she had to do was close her eyes to feel his charisma, to see his ingenuity, to hear his chuckle. All she had to do was clench her locket, breathe deeply, and know he was next to her.
This Mid-Victorian locket was handcrafted in 15 karat gold around 1860 in England. It’s intricately engraved on all sides, giving it a charmed and royal feel. An oval shaped locket, boasting a cobalt blue enamel cross on the front, opens to reveal a hair plated frame inside-a beautifully woven token to remember a cherished friend or loved one. It has been professionally acid tested. It weighs 3.5 grams and measures 23.2 x 18.1 x 4.5 grams.
Victorian mourning jewelry was worn by both men and women after the loss of a loved one. Queen Victoria lost her beloved Prince Albert when she was merely 42 and stayed in mourning until her death nearly 40 years later. Traditionally, keeping a lock of hair made sense to the surviving since photography wasn’t very common. Families wanted a part of who they lost, and in many cases, they creatively crafted it into something beautiful.

This fantastic Victorian locket was hand crafted in 18 karat gold right around the turn of the (last) century. The front features a flat oval center plaque surrounded by a whimsically embossed dash-dot pattern and a rich twisted wire accent. This locket has a lovely heavy bail.
