Rare Georgian Garnet Memorial Ring 'Sorrowful Remembrance' Black White Enamel

This ring was made in the same year that Thomas Jefferson and Aaron Burr fought it out over who would become the 3rd President of the United States, the great experiment in Democracy. It was made in England upon the death of one Henry Scott, Esq. He died on the 13th of May, 1801, I don’t know who he was, but he certainly was well memorialized on this most beautiful and rare ring.

This black and white enamel ring (white likely meant he was a bachelor) was beautifully made in Georgian England. The words “Sorrowful Remembrance” are done in gold and black enamel, the ring is framed and accented with white enamel. This size 7.5 ring is set with a large cabochon garnet gem, it measures 12.3 mm across and 4.5 mm north to south, it’s hard to get a depth because of the closed back. The ring was hand made in England in 1801 of 15 karat gold. It’s inscribed on the inside of the band with “Hnry Scott, Esq, died 13 May, 1801 - aged 47”. The ring weighs 3.4 grams.
