They have lozenge backs which are marked ‘Silver,’ they are stylish and will keep them well in place. These are unmarked but they seem very Art Deco in style. It is a sizable piece and really makes a statement on, measuring 2 inches across and 1 5/8 inches high. It weighs 15.6 grams. It is marked on the back, but it’s not easy to read, it might be a registration mark of some kind, I’ve included a photo. It has been acid tested to verify the sterling content.

Fantastic Scottish brooches don’t cross my path all that often anymore, I used to be able to find one or two each trip, but these days I consider myself lucky to find a nice ordinary one, so you can imagine my delight when I came across this extraordinarily stunning example!

I offer layaway on most items purchased for full retail price. These brooches were part of the historical crown and heart motif which also birthed the claddagh ring design. They were usually given as a love token or a betrothal gift, the two hearts intertwining symbolized a lasting union. I was thrilled when I came across this fabulous large pair on my last trip to London, and was even more happier when I saw the early hallmark, dating this wonderful piece to the early years of the Victorian era.

These wonderful, early antique silver Luckenbooth brooches were handcrafted in Scotland, in about 1780. They bear minimalistic engraving overtop overlapping hearts topped with a crown. The brooches are hand crafted and so while I suspect they are a matched pair, they are very slightly different in size. One of the brooches measures 72 mm high and 52.2 mm across, the other measure 68.8 mm top to bottom and 51 mm across at the widest point, together they weigh 55.4 grams. Saint Andrew, also called Saint Andrew the Apostle, was one of the Twelve Apostles of Jesus and the brother of Saint Peter, and is the patron saint of Scotland (and Russia). Set within a circle of grey Montrose agates, the deep red agates of the cross contrast beautifully against greens and yellows of the shield shaped bumblebee agate at the center, each one hand set in a solid, hand wrought and chased frame of 9 karat gold. After all, pocket watches were a necessity for almost everyone in the Victorian era and beyond. You couldn’t easily carry one in the trenches, though, and so after World War II the wristwatch really started to come into it's own, it was more practical, more portable, and quickly eclipsed the pocket watch as the gentleman's time piece of choice. What then to do with all those unused and unwanted beautiful watch chains? Well, it didn't take the ladies very long to figure out that they made fantastic necklaces and bracelets, and we've been wearing them ever since! Indeed, there really is nothing quite so iconic as the silver watch chain, duplicated by top designers time and time again, this classic is a go-with-anything staple of any well-dressed woman's jewelry wardrobe. From this need came the pocket watch, and with it, the tools required to keep it running. The reverse side remains uncarved, allowing the stone’s natural beauty to speak for itself. The piece hangs from a swivel fob and measures approximately 38.8 millimeters north to south and 20.3 millimeters across, with a depth of 8.4 millimeters, and weighs 12.9 grams. When I first started in this career I thought that I only liked silver jewelry, but then I was beguiled by the subtle warmth and weighty velvet feel of old gold. I thought diamonds were too showy, but then I found old cuts, and their uniqueness and prismatic effect turned out to be much to my liking. Opals and Jade have been the late comers to my jewelry party, but of late I’ve been enjoying their broad range of colors and stunning natural beauty. This ring features that largest and most beautiful piece of jade that I’ve purchased yet, but when I put it on my finger I couldn’t help it, it spoke to my jewelry soul.

This wonderful ring was hand crafted in the 1950s and has a definitive Retro style. The grade A Jadeite Jade stone is a gorgeous vivid green and comes with a certification showing no enhancement to the stone; it measures 20.08x14x7.1 mm and is a rectangular shaped cabochon cut that weighs approximately 17.33 carats. The ring itself is made of 18 karat yellow gold and measures 25 mm north to south at the face, tapering to 3 mm at the back of the band. The stone is bezel set with a stabilizing bar at the back which is detailed with hand engraving. This size 7.5 ring is unisex in style and large in scale, it would look equally amazing on a man or a woman, it weighs 9.4 grams and is marked ’18k’ and ‘Y.P.C’ for the maker. Comes with stone certificate and full appraisal showing replacement value of $17,500.

I offer a 3 or 4 payment layaway on most items purchased for full retail price, please inquire if you are interested in setting up a layaway. After all, jewelry was mostly created as sort of wearable money, and in a way it still is. Made of precious and semi-precious metals, crafted with an eye to design, made to be beautiful and desired as well as precious. Coins have often been incorporated in jewelry, melted down to make rings, sure, but also framed and worn, dangled off chains, I’ve even had some that have been turned into pocket knives. This locket was made with a coin, a golden Guinea coin showing the head of George III (1760-1820) in profile, the coin is called a ‘spade’ guinea for the shape of the shield on the reverse, and is dated to 1790. The coin was not pierced to make the locket but rather was thoughtfully worked into this locket, which might have been made as a watch fob.

The locket is set with a small miniature painting of a young man, the painting is somewhat aged. The hand crafted locket is set in the back with a round of sardonyx that has been left un-carved (the seeming marks in it are actually just reflections from our lights). The edges of the locket have been ridged to match the coin. The coin is gold and will be 22 karat, the rest of the locket is 18 karat. The locket measures 35.6 mm from top to bottom including the bale and is 24.8 mm in diameter and 7 mm thick, it weighs 15.4 grams.

Item ID: LTA25769VA

I offer free layaway on most items purchased for full retail price, please inquire if you are interested in setting up a layaway.
