1960s Silver Scandinavian Necklace with Malachite Beads
I was once rearranging the closet at my grandmother’s house and I came across a box with an odd little whipped cream maker in it, it was rocket shaped and had a little satellite shaped ball inside the the box claimed with a ’Sputnik’. It was a strange little gadget, surely from the 1960s, with stars and rocket decorating the outside of the box. This necklace is from that era, when space travel was so new and so amazing that the designs of the cosmos crept into all aspects of life, into kitchen products and clothes, cars and even jewelry. This necklace is from that era, it’s got an ultra-modern vibe that would be excellent with silver stacked boots and a mini-skirt.
This wonderful hand crafted necklace was made in sterling silver in about 1960, likely it’s Danish in origin. It is 34 inches long with no clasp, the 5 malachite beads that dot its length are each about 23 mm long and 9 mm wide. The necklace is unmarked but tests as silver. It weighs 69 grams.
