During the turn of the century, hunters wore their hobbies on their accessories – literally. Take this elk tooth necklace for instance. It could have been hunted by an Austrian gentleman who took his prize and made a necklace for his lady! It wasn’t just men that hunted back then either. It is quite well known that Empress Elisabeth of Austria enjoyed the hunt, she even had large crowds who would gather to see her off!
This antique Austrian silver and elk’s tooth necklace was handcrafted around 1890. It features an oak leaf motif with acorns scattered about. This necklace measures 17.5 inches in length and weighs 16.1 grams. The drop measures 53 x 23 x 11 mm. It bears the silver purity hallmark, “835”.
This interesting little bauble is a fun piece to wear and quite the conversation starter!
