They called it the Beautiful Era, the Belle Epoque. It was the French Third Republic and peace and prosperity, optimism and advances in technology were spreading across Europe. Starting in the 1880s and lasting until the outbreak of World War I in 1914. The Beauty of the era could be found not only in society, but in art and culture and very certainly in jewelry.
This wonderful Belle Epoque ring is set with an array of sparkling old diamonds. Hand crafted around 1905, this lovely ring is done in 18 karat gold with the diamonds set into platinum. The center stone measures 5.7x 5.3 x 4.2 mm and weighs approximately .93 carats and the ring is set with an additional 12 rose cut diamonds which are set into a swirling pattern that give this ring tons of light, life and movement. The ring is a size 6 but could be resized somewhat to suit. This ring measures 17 mm north to south and 13.8 mm across at the face, it sits 7.8 mm off the finger and narrows to 1.2 mm at the back of the band. This ring weighs 3.5 grams, it is marked but I wasn’t able to figure out the mark, I’ve acid tested it to verify the metal content.
This ring would go perfectly with a glass of Perrier-Jouet Belle Epoque Brut Rose, out of the iconic Poppy flower bottle, but if you want to wear it while drinking an ice cold Corona with a lime on a hot summer day, well, that would be just fine, too.
