Antique Arts and Crafts Era Silver Moonstone Ring

I was shopping at Newark, which bills itself as 'England Largest Antiques Fair', when I came across this stunningly beautiful Arts and Crafts ring. I had just begun my day and starting out by visiting a dealer that I know quite well and wanted to buy from first. I picked out a few things, but my eye kept going back to this ring, to the rich blue moonstones and swirling circles of silver. What can I say? I'm a sucker for Arts and Crafts jewelry and this hand made moonstone ring just had me at hello. I love the long length of it, the glow of the stones contrasted with the shine of the silver.

This hand crafted ring was made in about 1910, or at least the top part of it was, I think that the piece started out as a brooch and that the shank is a more recent addition, it’s a lovely split shank and well done. The center moonstone measures 12 mm round and 5.5 mm deep and weighs about 5.67 carats, the other two stones measure 9.1 mm round and 5.7 mm deep and weigh about 6.76 together, for a total weight of moonstone in this ring of 12.43 carats. The ring face measures 45.1 mm from north to south and 212.6 mm across, it sits 10.8 mm off the finger and narrows to 3 mm at the back of the band. This size 6.25 ring weighs 13.4 grams. The ring is unmarked but test as sterling silver.

This is a truly stunning ring, a one of kind piece of art that promises to get noticed again and again and again!
