If you find yourself in Vienna in February, and if you can swing it, go to the Vienna Opera Ball. It’s an exclusive affair, plan to be there well into the night, and plan to see more than one familiar face. (“Hmmm, where do I know him from? Was he on that show? No, did he invent that… yes, that’s it. Oh, my!”) And wear this ring. Why? Because it’s at once flashy and subdued, demure and yet somehow not-to-be-missed. You don’t want to shout in this crowd, just speak softly and let them lean in a little.
This fabulous diamond rings holds the lucky number of seven diamonds. All of them are Old European cuts with that slow fiery flash that only old cuts seem to master. The center stone weighs approximately .35 carats, the outer two are .20 carats each, the little ones add up to .12 carats, for a total carat weight of about .90 carats. The diamonds are all very clean and super sparkly. The face of this ring measures 7 mm north to south and 15 mm across, it’s got a low profile and sits just 3.3 mm off the finger. The ring was hand crafted, probably in England, which is where I purchased it; in about 1880-90, it’s a very Victorian ring. It’s made entirely of 18 karat gold which is unmarked but has been carefully acid tested. This ring is a size 6.25 and could be re-sized a little bit, please feel free to let me know your desired size and I’ll find out if it can be done. Weighs 2.6 grams.
At theaters, opera houses, and balls it’s always best to go with diamonds, I think. All those lovely dramatic lights create quite the mesmerizing display when paired with a little ice.
