The demand for Scottish jewelry thrived during Queen Victoria's time at Balmoral, her castle in the Scottish highlands. It's easy to see why with this impressive and unique sword and shield pin. It is reminiscent of a traditional officer's basket hilted broadsword with the Victorian Royal Scottish Infantry-regal with details on every inch.
This Late Victorian silver sword and shield agate kilt brooch was handcrafted in Scotland, 1880. This brooch is set with bloodstone, on the blade of the sword and center of the shield, and accented with carnelian, decorating the shield and sword head, and marble, making the base of the shield. Silver covers the tip of the sword, with ornate engraving, silver also covers the handle of the sword, forming a regal flower around the hilt. It has been professionally acid tested. It measures 4 3/16 x 1 1/4 inches and weighs 24.4 grams.
This beautiful piece is a great take on a classic idea, made amid an era of regal design. It would make a wonderful addition to any collection of top quality Scottish pebble jewelry.
