Victorian Amethyst Silver Gilt Necklace Bangle Bracelet Set

Did you know that it was the mighty Amethyst which gave us purple as the color of royalty? The thought was that Amethyst was the rarest of gems, rarer still than the almighty diamond. With a stone so beautiful and so rare, it’s easy to see why for generations it was restricted to be worn only by Royalty. It wasn’t until the 18th century that vast Amethyst deposits were discovered in Brazil.

This two piece Victorian set is hand crafted in silver which has been gilded to give it a golden look. The stylish bangle is set with three round, bright violet amethyst gems which together add up to 9 carats of gems; it’s further set with 18, 1.5 mm creamy white seed pearls and it measures 12.7 mm wide at the widest point, it would fit a wrist of about 6.75 inches or less and it weighs 10.8 grams. The necklace is 15 inches long and is set with 9 oval cut amethysts which add up to 11.5 carats in gems; it’s accented with 9, 1.5 mm pearls. The necklace closes with a barrel clasp and weighs 11.5 grams. Neither of the two pieces is hallmarked, but we’ve carefully acid tested them both and verified that they are silver.

I’m not entirely certain whether this set started life out together or not. Both pieces were hand crafted in Europe in about 1880 and they look lovely together. I purchased them as a set and I’m selling them the same way.
