1940s Peynet Gold Heart Pendant 'Les Amoureux de Peynet' 18 karat

Raymond Peynet was a French illustrator, he was born in 1908, and passed away in 1999. His most famous works were based on two characters he dubbed as ‘The Lovers’, or, ‘Les Amoureux’ in French. They were painted and drawn on vases, jewelry, prints, books, posters, and even postage stamps! These two beloved characters were cherished by an entire culture for more than half a century, this beautiful piece of jewelry features them.

This darling vintage pendant was handcrafted in France around 1940. It’s a heart shaped piece, perfectly fitting for this romantic motif. The front of this 18 karat gold piece bears the image of two people, a man and woman who seem so in love, gazing at a precious bird sitting in his hand. It looks as though they’re on a cloud, probably cloud nine! The overall measurements are 23 x 15.8 x 2.3 mm and it weighs 1.6 grams. This piece is marked with the gold purity number, ‘750’ and has French hallmarks. The back inscription reads, ‘Les amoureax de Peynet’. Next to these words is an engraving of a tiny bird. This pendant has been acid tested.

These lovers would be an adorable gift for Valentine’s Day or any day you’re in love.
