Angry Bobby English Policeman Charm Silver Pendant

$ 220.00

Before 1829 there was no police force in London, or really anywhere for that matter. When the then British home minister, Sir Robert Peel, organized the London Metropolitan Police (headquartered on a street named… you guessed it, Scotland Yard) he dressed them in black coats and tall black wool hats with shiny badges. These hats became iconic and the London police force was so closely associated with Robert Peel that those who wore these hats got the nickname of ‘Bobbies’.

I found this particular little Bobby to be utterly irresistible. He looks a bit grumpy, really, under his iconic hat, but this just makes him all the more appealing. The wonderful Victorian charm is done in silver, it’s a small thing, just 21.2 mm from top to bottom including the bale and 16.1 mm across at the widest point. This pendant is unmarked but has been carefully acid tested. It weighs 1.6 grams. Made in England around 1880.
