I have a definite weakness for all things Art Nouveau, so the flowing whiplash lines and naturalistic motif of this brooch just spoke to my soul.
Hand crafted by Henry Matthews in Birmingham, England in 1905, this fully hallmarked 9 karat gold brooch is set with 3 rich purple amethyst gems. The top, round faceted, gem measures 5 mm across and 2.9 mm deep, the center stone is an oval faceted gem that measures 9x7x4 mm and the teardrop amethyst at the bottom measures 6.5 mm across and 12 mm long. The overall brooch measures 27 mm across at the widest part of the pendant drop and 40 mm across at the brooch pin, it’s 83 mm from top to bottom. The piece weighs 5.7 grams.
I purchased this one with the idea of turning it into a necklace and would be happy to have it done upon request.
