This antique silver necklace was hand crated in the Arts and Crafts era, around 1910, by famed Norwegian silver smith Marius Hammer. The blue and white enamel featured all around this graceful necklace was one of the signatures of a Hammer piece, his white enamel has an iridescence reminiscent of a pearl. Hammer lived from 1847-1927 and worked in Bergen, Norway. Chains of silver weave throughout this necklace, piecing together a lovely statement piece of swirls, loops, and twists.
This hand crafted necklace makes quite a statement. This piece weighs 8.0 grams and measures 16.75 inches in length. A mark on the back reads, ‘930S’, indicating fine silver and it bears the hallmark of the M with a hammer forming the center. Please note that this necklace is not in perfect condition, the center blue enamel rondel has a small black mark, it’s not a chip, but I don’t know what it is and I’ve not been able to remove it.
