Antique Carnelian Small Fob Pendant Bird Gold

I like to imagine that a well-to-do gentleman used one side of this fob seal to mark secret love letters and clandestine messages, while the other side was used for transparent business affairs. He probably had a grand mustache and a bicorn hat, and enjoyed reading Chaucer by his fireplace after a long night of writing in cursive and secret code.

This antique Victorian gold fob was handcrafted in England, around 1880. It’s an scrolling shape and holds a carnelian seal on one end which is carved with a mockingbird. This piece was made in 9 karat gold and measures 18.8 x 14.8 x 9.2 mm ad weighs 2.5 grams.  It has no marks and has been acid tested.

I adore these fob seals, as you can see as you explore my lane! They’re filled with mystery and I just can’t get enough!
