Antique Citrine Dragonfly Brooch Pin Silver

I have a friend who loves dragonflies. I’ve never asked her why. Perhaps it’s because she really hates mosquitoes and knows that the dragonflies help keep the population of biting buzzers down. Perhaps it’s because they are a symbol of courage, happiness and strength in Japanese culture. Perhaps it’s because their beautiful coloration and stunning flight patterns have dazzled the eye and the scenes of poets and artists for generations. Maybe it’s just because they have dragon in their name; I’ll have to remember to ask her.

This dragonfly is one you can take along with you all day long, giving you that courage and strength that you need. It is hand crafted into a brooch of sterling silver and it’s wings shimmer with multi-faceted gems of light whiskey-orange citrine. This lovely Anisoptera was made around 1910, probably in England, which is where I found her. She is 60.5 mm from head to tail and 30.6 mm wide at the wings. This wonderful Brooch is unmarked but has been acid tested as silver and weighs 6 grams.
