Antique Cut Steel Bow and Hoop Earrings with Silver Wires

Okay, so truth be told, these utterly fabulous cut steel earrings have been having a leisurely stroll through my jewelry box since I purchased them last winter. They make a huge statement, they sparkle in even the lowest light and turn even the most blah outfit into an absolute ensemble. I’m finally ready to give you a chance at them. Are you looking for something that won’t bust your budget but makes just as huge and sparkly of a statement as diamonds? Look no further than these cut steel beauties!

I’m sure that these beauties were not always earrings, I suspect that they started life out as buckles. They are a little bit on the heavy side, not enough to bother me, but I don’t forget I’m wearing them, that’s for sure. They hang 69.6 mm from the top of the wire to the bottom of the hoop and 40.7 mm across at the bow ends and together they weigh 29 grams. The original buckles were probably Georgian and almost certainly English, c. 1850. I couldn’t say when they were converted, I purchased them as earrings in London (with much delight!). They have sterling silver wires and the cut steel beads are riveted to brass back plates. Care should be taken to keep them dry.
