In my humble opinion, some of the best museums in Europe are located along the gorgeous old brick and cobblestone streets of Amsterdam, along with lovely canals and markets of tulips and amazing architecture, and wonderful food and friendly folk, and…. well, I could go on. If I’m not buying jewels you might find me in one of these lovely museums on my frequent visits to this loveliest of cities.

Set in 18 karat gold, this hand crafted ring boasts a lovely and deep 4 mm closed backed sparkling rose cut diamond, winking away in a fanciful flower of a mount. The ring puts on quite a show, it is large in both style and scale, the front measures 13.3 mm north to south and 20 mm across, it sits up 7.5 mm off the finger and narrows to 3.9 mm at the back of the band. It is a size 9 and acid tests as 18 karat gold.

This ring is unmarked but is probably Dutch in origin, this perfectly wonderful ring dates to about 1870-1880. One condition note is that this diamond has gotten a bit dark, this happens when the foil behind the stone oxidizes. I kind of like it as it is a sort of patina, but you can have a ring like this re-foiled if you prefer it to be brighter.
