Antique Edwardian Abalone Necklace in 9k Gold, c. 1910

She is a girl with her own unique style. She wears rain boots even when it isn’t raining, because she liked their shiny yellow reflection in the sunshine. She likes stripes and poka-dots, especially together. She doesn’t wear diamonds (too fancy), or pearls (too uptight), instead she wears this necklace, with it’s swirls of blue and green abalone that match the bright color of her inquisitive eyes.

I fell hard for this Edwardian beauty with it’s unusual gems, it’s got an understated kind of luminosity, this one. The silky smooth disks of Abalone shell are set into 9 karat gold mounts and hang on a necklace that’s 18 inches in length. The mounts go around, but not behind the shell, so it can be worn on either side. The necklace is marked ‘9ct’ on the largest gem. The round gems start with the largest one at 13 mm and graduate down to 5.5 mm , there are 15 in total. This necklace weighs 14.7 grams.

Made in England around 1910.
