Antique Edwardian Diamond Snake Ring 18k Gold

“O serpent heart hid with a flowering face!
Did ever a dragon keep so fair a cave?”

That’s what Juliet says about Romeo in a moment of fickleness before she declares, once more, that her heart belongs to only him. Shakespeare uses snake imagery throughout the canon to signify anything from power to malevolence, from elegance to evil, but I’ve always admired snakes for their instinct for self-preservation, like wisdom in action.

Well, this Antique Edwardian Diamond Snake ring is most certainly elegant! Coiled around the finger, the serpent rests its bejeweled head on its tail, pretty and poised. Is it content to bask in its own beauty or is it choosing a moment to strike? A remarkable and handsome peice, this 18k and diamond snake ring will attract inquisitive attention. The rich gold gives a wonderful fluidity to the coils of the serpent, and the bright diamond on its head seems to mark the creature as somehow sacred. The ring is 8.4 mm wide and weighs 6.3 grams. It bears several marks: “18,” “Birm,” “1902,” a crown, and the maker’s mark “HWLd.” It is a size 9.5 US.

Some cultures see snakes as the wisdom of the earth. Whether you fear snakes or appreciate them, the serpentine beauty of this fabulous ring will make you feel invincible!
