Antique Fascinating Scottish Victorian Bloodstone Intaglio Gold Signet Ring

In January 1606, the first Walter Stewart was one of the Lords of the secret council. He assisted, as a judge, at the famous trial of John Welch and other ministers, who were accused and found guilty of treason. They were promptly banished from the kingdom. In July of 1606 he was made a Peer of Scotland with the title, Lord Blantyre. He continued his legacy by holding high posts and being involved in important legislative creations and decisions.

This antique Scottish intaglio bloodstone ring was handcrafted around 1880. It’s a signet ring that was made in 18 karat gold. This ring bears the crest of the Lordship of Blantyre: a dove with an olive leaf in its mouth, standing proper, with the motto, “Sola Juvat Virtus”. This Latin phrase means, ‘Virtue Alone Delights Me’. The ring is a US size 6 and weighs 10.2 grams.
