Antique French 47 inch Gold Chain Long Guard

We sat at an outdoor café in Cannes, while dining on butter cake and scotch. It was the perfect weather, mid 60’s, light breeze. I wore a simple white silk wrap dress with a chain wrapped around my neck in layers. I waved to Hirokazu Kore'eda. He waved back.

‘You know him?’

‘Seems that way.’

‘I would say. But I got away with it.’

This stunning gold chain was handcrafted in France around 1900. It’s an extraordinary 47 inches in length with a fairly light weight of 35.2 grams. This piece was originally a watch chain and can now be strung around the neck or wrist over and over again for that timeless layered look. Each large swirling link measures 7.2 x 14 mm. It has been acid tested at 18 karat gold. It bears the hallmark, “SGOG” and it has a French maker’s mark.
