Chains are my arch nemesis, they are hard to find and easy to sell and I never seem to have enough of them. So, you can already guess how giddy I was when I came across this fantastic Art Nouveau long guard chain. Giddy. Truly, giddy.
Set with 7 artfully done links showing lilies of the valley, this 55 inch chain was hand crafted around 1900. The fancy links measure 16x7.6 mm and are evenly disbursed throughout the chain. This chain was made in France and is marked with the French boars head mark, the purity mark for silver. As is typical for a long guard chain (usually used to hold a watch), both ends of the chain are attached to the same jump ring, so it doesn’t open like a typical chain, the clasp is meant to hold a watch or bauble, the chain meant to be worn wrapped around the neck. This French beauty weighs 19.1 grams.
