Antique French En Tremblant Spray Brooch set with 4.5 cttw Diamonds Pin

$ 7,500.00

"Tea, Mademoiselle?" he asked.

"Oui" she replied with a small smile.

She sat across from him sipping her tea from a dainty porcelain cup. In one hand her long slender fingers held the saucer, just so. Between the thumb and first finger of her other hand she held the cup, so thin the edges glowed in the evening light that streamed through the window behind her. The hand holding the cup fluttered back and forth to her lips in a motion so easy and light it made him think of a butterfly drinking nectar from a delicate flower, so fluid that she hardly moved. In contrast to her seeming stillness, the floral diamond spray on her shoulder was in constant motion. The diamond flower trembled and spun in the last golden rays of the sun. It kept drawing his eye from her face, as it shot small rainbows of light dancing across the walls and ceiling of the drawing room. He thought it the second most beautiful thing he had ever seen, surpassed in loveliness only by it's wearer.

Ah, those crafty French, they always did come up with the best ideas for how to make jewelry even more fabulous. This rose and branch inspired trembler brooch, often referred to as 'En Tremblant' (French for 'to tremble') is set with a fantastic 4.35mm cushion cut diamond at its center. The entire rose is set on a spring on the sprig of branches which gives it wonderful motion with every move you take. The flower and leaves are covered in gorgeous, sparkly old cut diamonds, 116 of them in all. The stones are a mix of old mine cuts, Swiss cuts, Mazarin cuts and rose cuts and altogether the diamonds in this brooch add up to approximately 4.5 carats.

This brooch has been somewhat modified from its original form, while it was hand crafted in France in about 1860, it has had this trident style pin stem added, most likely so that it could be worn on a fur. It is made in 18 karat gold with silver settings. It is marked with the French eagles head mark, the assay mark for 18 karat gold, the silver mark and a makers mark. This large brooch measures 92mm (3.5 inches) from end to end and is 30mm (1.2 inches) high at the widest point, it weighs 25.7 grams. A small condition note, this brooch is missing one diamond, you’ll notice it in the photos, one of the tiny ones around the center stone. I asked my jeweler and he said it would be more noticeable if he fixed it, which I agree with, it’s very hard to notice, especially as the diamonds are so bright!

If you purchase this brooch, try and wear it as often as possible in candlelight, for this is how it was truly meant to be seen. Low light, fire light, evening light, this is where the magic happens. This fantastic brooch would make a stunning addition to any collection of fine Antique jewelry, and if you’re looking for the perfect wedding jewel for a one-shouldered gown? Look no further!
