Antique French Plique-a-Jour Enamel Silver Necklace Blue Tones

$ 790.00

Centering this wonderful French plaque pendant are the twin symbols of Louis XVI, the flaming torch and a quiver or arrows. The torch is an ancient symbol for life, truth and regenerative power while the quiver of arrows signified Louis willingness to use force in the pursuit of justice; the two are bound together in Lilies, the flower of France and an olive branch, the symbol of peace. Surrounding this lovely piece is a Neoclassical frame with a bow on top.

This French necklace dates to about 1880, and is set with ‘plique-a-jour’ enamel because when you hold it up to the light it shines through with the ‘light of day’. This beautiful enamel fades from dark blue to white and back again on a pendant which measures 39.7 mm north to south and 33.6 mm across at the widest point and is 19 inches in length. This unmarked necklace has been acid tested as silver and weighs 10.5 grams.
