Antique French Silver Slide Locket Pendant Goddesses

Do you see her there? She is Pomona, a wood nymph and the goddess of fruitful abundance. She guards the woodland fruit trees, and looks over gardens and orchards. She wears a cron of crown of grapes and grape leaves as she wanders.

Do you see her there? She is Flore (Flora), the goddess of flowers and of the Spring. She is married to the Gold of the wind and has long been known to hang out for the illustrious Hercules. She wears a horn of plenty and morning glories as her crown.

This fantastic French silver locket bears likenesses of both of these wonderful Goddesses, one on each side. The slide locket features a disk of mother of pearl in one side and a small mirror in the other. This piece is signed by the artist “Ch. Pillet” for Charles Pillet, a member of the Society des Artistes Francias, and award winning metal artist in who worked from the 1880s through the 1920s, and it also bears the boar’s head with is the French assay mark for silver. The locket measures 38.2 mm north to south and 26 mm across and weighs 9.7 grams.

This stunning locket was made in France in about 1890-1900 with a very distinctive Art Nouveau style.
