Antique French St Mary Silver Pendant Necklace

I walked through the cathedral of Notre Dame, noting the violets and blues of the stained glass. I stood beneath the ribbed vault, listening to my footsteps echo off the ancient stones. I stopped at the north rose window, a stained-glass masterpiece from the 1200’s called the Glorification of the Virgin Mary with Kings and Prophets. I grasped my pendant. It felt cool in my hands as I gazed at the very center of the window display. Mary sat on a throne with a fleur-de-lis scepter, surrounded by doves and angels, as she held her infant son. I was lucky enough to wear her around my neck.

This antique French silver necklace was handcrafted around 1890. The image of St. Mary in profile sits at the center of this engraved pendant with scrolls and flowers framing her. It’s a round pendant that measures 46.3 x 37.5 x 2 mm and weighs 16.7 grams. The chain measures 19.5 inches in length. This piece bears the French bighorn hallmark and a maker’s mark. It has been acid tested.

For a first communion, an Easter gift, or even a Christmas present, this is a pendant that expresses faith, virtue, and history, all in one.
