Antique Georgian Cannetille Red Coral Earrings in 18k Gold

Some of us, myself included, have a special love for coral jewelry. Since Roman times, coral was believed to possess the power to ward off evil and danger.  In 1845 the Prince of Two Sicilies gave his bride, the Duchess d'Aumale, a memorable parure of coral jewelry. Thus began a fashion trend that lasted through the 1880s and beyond.

These wonderful red coral earrings are Georgian, as evidenced by the subtly lovely faceting on the coral beads. The 18 karat gold mounts are handcrafted with wonderful and visually intriguing cannetille work.  The drops are 1 3/4 inches long and weigh 5.2 grams. These earrings have excellent movement and great visual impact!

Most likely made in England around 1830, I purchased them in London.

Wear these beautiful red coral earrings and ward off danger at every turn!
