Not all women can wear red, but she wore red, she wore it often. So much, in fact, that she demanded to have rubies in all her jewels, not always big ones, not always the stars of the show (although she had those, too). Sometimes her rubies were just the support staff for other gems, like diamonds or sapphires or her favorite, moonstones.
This necklace was a decision made easy for me, it has everything that makes my personal jewelry heart happy, the bright and sparkling rubies, the blue Adularescence, the rich gold, the tassels that lay perfectly across your collar bones. It is set with 15 round red rubies that are 3x3x1.5 mm and weigh about 0.10 carats each for a total of 1.5 carats in rubies. The real stars of this show, of course, are the 9 cabochon cut moonstones, they vary in size from 5.5 carats to 3.6 carats and add up to about 38.55 carats in total weight. This necklace is 15.5 inches long with a barrel clasp at the back. Hand crafted in 18 karat gold, this necklace weighs 11.4 grams.
This hand crafted beauty was made in about 1910, in the Edwardian period, when moonstones and everything ephemeral were the height of fashion.
